They fucked up as well and maybe they know that, though I haven’t seen them acknowledge it. I don’t think anything got bailed out though, it was an awful window. I'm working on the (fair imo) assumption that there's a scale that expands well, well below the 'awful' one we had, where Howe, Nickson, and Andy Howe don't step up to bail them out of a catastrophic window. The amortisation plus salary of what we did last summer is going to be absolutely mad and push our cost base way up. Missing out up Europe entirely is probably unthinkable budget wise. (I didn't see the interview, just going off what White said) To go from that to not having a stance is a bit of a u-turn on Starmer levels. You don't half back him and pile more pressure on with "we'll see". He's manager of this football club and he deserves full backing until he's no longer Newcastle manager.
