Saying it publicly is questionable and not really necessary, but then we complain about lack of communication. It’s no surprise if the ownership is questioning things after last summers spending and this seasons performances.

After Howe completely bailed them out of their own gross incompetence.

No good deed goes unpunished.

They fucked up as well and maybe they know that, though I haven’t seen them acknowledge it. I don’t think anything got bailed out though, it was an awful window.

Side stepping the talk of last summer and being bailed out for obvious reasons

But don't you think his comments are poorly advised?

It always was tbf. In a week where we shipped 7 goals in 1 match and didn't turn up yet again in the Derby the remaining games were always going to take on much greater significance.

I think he needs to win at least 5 of them and then hope that's enough for some form of European football next season.

Agree. And it’s not just about the last week. It’s the trend over the past year or so.

We keep conceding the same type of soft goals, making the same mistakes, losing games we shouldn’t… and there’s no real sign of it improving. He’s been tactically outplayed way too often.

That’s what makes these last games so important. It’s not just about points, it’s about whether there’s actually any change or if it’s more of the same.

And for me, unless we qualify for the Conference League, or at an absolute minimum finish top 10 with some real momentum, then he has to go.

To those who think what he is saying is reasonable, that may or may not be the case, but there is absolutely no need to say them publicly. Added to that his quotes aimed at the players too. It is all Mitchell-esque and can only cause problems

I'm working on the (fair imo) assumption that there's a scale that expands well, well below the 'awful' one we had, where Howe, Nickson, and Andy Howe don't step up to bail them out of a catastrophic window. The fish rots from the head and all that.

Still struggling to find these damning quotes that don't look good / are shocking / read grimly for Howe tbh.

Feels like a headline that doesn't match the actual words.

Not great quotes but I’ll watch them spoken to see what the tone was like. Sounds very much like a CEO anyway.

Sounds a bit like he’s trying to tell the fans he understands the derby loss. Which IMO is unnecessary but there you go.

I don’t think it’s helpful to say it publicly, but then I also don’t like it when they speak without really saying anything. At least from this we can take it that they’re not happy with how the season has gone. I wouldn’t have said it though.

This is pretty much where I'm at. I think it's the change In tone maybe that's throwing me off?

Although, when I dovetail the comments with the finances I can see why the situation is tricky.

Our business has been extraordinary expensive. The amortisation plus salary of what we did last summer is going to be absolutely mad and push our cost base way up. Missing out up Europe entirely is probably unthinkable budget wise.

"I don't have a stance on his future," he said.

"Eddie is our manager. I expect to have a great run to the end of the season here and we will talk about the future when it's time.

Those quotes coming from any CEO, let alone one who's normally the personification of an inspirational LinkedIn post is a huge red flag.

Maybe, but it just reads like fence-sitting

I think it goes beyond that personally, but let's say it is that, you don't think it's a red flag that the club's CEO is fence sitting over the future of our manager?

Watching Talkshite, Jim White had an interview with Hopkinson a matter of days ago and he said then that the whole 2030 vision had Eddie in the hot seat. (I didn't see the interview, just going off what White said)

To go from that to not having a stance is a bit of a u-turn on Starmer levels.

Grim, Eddie can't be happy with that.

He doesn't have to be tbh. He's the manager, the club is bigger than one personality. Howe will just get on with his job, we win a few games and all this will go away.

Maybe Eddie has told him he's off in the Summer.

Fucking wild comments and stinking of someone who has never been in this kind of role before.

You back your manager until you don't. You don't half back him and pile more pressure on with "we'll see". He's manager of this football club and he deserves full backing until he's no longer Newcastle manager.

Hopkinson seems fucking clueless like. Least he's got staff working from the office though. That'll make all the difference.

I guess I can see how, by not publicly going 100% Howe, it can lead to that thought.
