It'd be 8 defeats on the spin. 9 including Barca away.

You can't end a season like that and stay in the job

Yes this is what a lot of people are overlooking, especially the Howe In side. Unless we win 3 or 4 of the last five then its going to be a flat depressing summer. All momentum has been lost as well as the feel good factor. Zero optimism for the season ahead.

That can be mitigated to some extent with a new manager and team rebuild. Get an early lift from seeing us in pre season not playing 433 or Elanga or Murphy or others. Its a great feeling the first game of the season with half a team making its debut. Especially with a new manager there as well. We all need some optimism going into the new particularly as I'll be paying just short of £1000 for my season ticket.

True Faith wasn't 'that' bad compared to usually whinge levels, Alex is extremely Howe out at this point - more than I expected anyone to be really. But was just about listenable, which for them is good work.

Charlotte was on but spoke much less. Also a positive.

Not one of their worst. 2 Howe Out, 2 Howe In. You can hear the reasons for both. Also useful as a barometer.

The best question they posed to the two Howe In fans was:

If NUFC lose every game the rest of this season, does it change your mind?

Maybe pedantic but I don't think it's the right question really. Firstly - for all our problems - it's an unrealistic outcome and therefore not worth framing the discussion around. It's just a pointless hypothetical.

Then it becomes a sliding scale. How many more defeats is 'acceptable' before the manager's position is untenable? One? Two? Three? That's not a sensible way to make a decision about his future.

If you just accept that the season is a failure and the specific league position is broadly irrelevant, you make a decision on his future based on the bigger picture matters.

Is the club so toxic that we're left with the only thing we've got true agency on? Can this squad 'go again' with Howe, or have they completely lost belief? Are Howe and Wilson totally aligned on the summer plans? If we're leaning towards a change, have we identified a true successor (who can also work with Wilson), or are we cornered into appointing a stopgap?

As someone who supports Eddie Howe FC with the childhood bedspreads to prove it, my great sadness is in the fact that I think the toxicity/squad belief factors will be at such a point that a change is necessary.

As much as we can discuss what is best, the big question is if the players still want him to manage.

The last two performances suggest they are a little checked out or aren’t really taking in his instructions.

I’m Howe in. But if he looks like he only has 1 idea and the players can’t be motivated to execute it at all through to the end of the season then it gets really tough.

Klopp has some really bad seasons at Dortmund and a couple at Liverpool. These lows are really low.

For me, unless you’re willing to bin off a dozen players and start fresh, I don’t think it’s an irrelevant question. Many of these shirkers are still going to be here, so it’s worth asking whether Eddie will be able to get a tune out of them or whether they need a new voice.

Get some wins, we see it more as a blip. Lose all 5 pathetically then you suspect the overpaid primadonnas need a new daddy.

TBF some might be checked out because they're leaving or the season is ending so badly. Tonali was still bombing round like his life depended on it.

I don't really think Howe has 'lost the players' in any meaningful way.

Sounds so harsh given all he's achieved, but my head is saying that Howe just doesn't have the answers to get us going again.

I think people are under estimating how hard it is to turn a sinking ship around that you manage compared to being a new voice.

I think if we can start Bruno and Tonali until the end we might see some measure of reaction. I'd like to see 4231 with Woltemade and Osula maybe.

I don't feel like the players have given up, maybe Gordon and Tino but one is injured anyway.

What's that? A list of how much better we'd be and how Eddie's recruitment would be viewed if we were able to land the players we wanted?

I think it was just a pointless list of players we might allegedly have tried to buy but who didn't want to come here.

As useful as me posting about how I really want an Aston Martin DBS Superleggara. But the sales bloke at the Aston Martin dealership keeps selling them to other punters because I haven't actually got the funds to pay for one and the other punters do.

My main issue is we went from trying to get these, to then ending up with who we got. The drop off in quality didn’t need to be as big imo.

We were big game fishing but armed with a tiny maggot and an inappropriately sized rod.

It was doomed to fail.

Judging by the way some of them are stood around looking instead of defending, I'd say they have lost belief in what they are doing.

Bruno being back could be influential and if we're cornered into having to start both Burn and Trippier again due to injuries, then we've at least got three bona fide leaders on the pitch. At the other end, Osula at least still seems to be playing with his usual enthusiasm and doing what he can on a personal level to grasp the opportunity.

The ones I'd be suspicious of are Gordon, Tino and Tonali. One is a confirmed flake so needs to be sat down unless doing so would ruin the dressing room; one is a potential flake but injured anyway; the other ran himself to death like usual at the weekend.

It seems an alien concept that these players could really phone it in on the manager after everything he's done for them. It's probably more a matter of their confidence being in absolute tatters since Barca, and playing within themselves, rather than jacking it in.

Tonali was working really hard against Bournemouth mind.

I said this in the Tonali thread. You can criticise him for aspects of his play, but I thought he was pretty much running non-stop. But the tracking back from other players for their winner was atrocious.
