Our record when we've gone (at least) two goals in front:

2022/23: P14 W13 D1 L0 (93% win rate)

2023/24: P12 W12 D0 L0 (100%)

2024/25: P13 W13 D0 L0 (100%)

2025/26: P6(!) W5 D1 L0 (83%)

*P7 W6 D1 L0 (86%)

If he can figure out a way for us to regularly capitalise on leads again, he will get us back on track. Easier said than done but that's what's been at the centre of our success under him - winning by force rather than grinding stuff out.

His game management was far better today, switching formations in the 2nd half also helped. Hopefully we can kick on and get a little run of form to end season.

My main issue was the second half 15 minute loop where we would get a goal kick, pope would unerringly pinpoint van Hecke’s head, none of our midfield would contest the second ball, Brighton would attack, we got a goal kick and it all started again. Surely one of the coaching team should have noticed this and done something before eventually pope changed sides. Amazingly Wissa actually won some headers but, as often happens, none of his teammates could take advantage.

Said this before, it's not necessarily our defending that's been poor and cost us games, it's the fact we haven't carved out the psychological advantage of a 2 goal lead from our misfiring forwards.

22 premier league goals all season from a front 6 that cost £250m is pitiful.

Guess the question going into the transfer window is does Howe recognise that and maybe thinks we need something different or does he think he can get 50-60 goals out of them next season?

Personally, I dont see +30 goals from our wide areas and that's a problem.

The reaction to the starting line up is one of those moments you'd love to be a time traveller and just post this

Pleased for him. Have to be honest and say I wouldn’t have chosen that starting 11 nor made his subs but we won so it doesn’t matter.

The selection does point that he’s not looking for a new formula (right now) and would rather put his faith in the players he trusts most.

It makes me think his job is on the line from these results. Think most managers default to favourites/trusted players in that situation.

Hope he gets the one more league win he needs to become outright the most successful manager we've had based on PL games won. That fat kebab monster got the extra game he needed to get his shit 1000 games under his fat belly. Hopefully Eddie doesnt need to go into next season waiting for that win.

This makes me feel better about defending the team selection prior to kick off, especially the Burn inclusion.

I think the board will give him another go because they don't have anyone else lined up tbh, but if he's going to double down on  that way of playing, I think it might just be delaying the inevitable.

We won, but on another day could easily have lost. The 4-3-3 itself isn't the problem, but you do need really high quality players up front to execute it effectively.

Whatever happened to ‘intensity is our identity’?

Appreciate that’s hard to maintain when you’re playing 2-3 times per week but we’ve played once a week for the last month and there’s nowhere near the same energy to our play without the ball. It’s just upped and disappeared.

It was a bit like in our other games, we had it for the first 45 but faded badly after that.

I think our lack of ability to keep possession is making it hard to maintain intensity, we keep having to chase the ball after losing it.

Fucking great result, so pleased for him, you can tell with his interview he's hurting as much as us, what a great bloke

I've defended our away form at times because I could see an actual plan of sorts that's evolved as the seasons gone on. It's not really reaped results due to poor execution, but I can at least see what we're trying to do.

All of our home games have been exactly the same since around November, end-to-end shootouts with very little control or quality to speak of.

Football is a game of fine margins, so when you're boiling your game down to being more clinical than the opponent in the eighteen yard area, you're not going to build up any form of consistency or momentum.  I'm really at a bit of a loss in that regard.

Yeah, it nearly killed us at 2-1. Delighted with the win obviously but the same problems were apparent- we’re clearly not coached to keep the ball, retain possession and play technical football. Team full of runners, booting the ball away instead of trying to keep it, poor passing etc.

£300m on the bench, including arguably our most technical players + runners who aren’t performing.

We are what we are under Eddie and that’s clearly not going to change any time soon - the comments about tall players and athletes emphasise that.

Sign better runners and taller players and we might be ok but it’s only ever going to take us so far.

I know you're being facetious, but he genuinely is. That's why it's worrying that we're still doing the same thing several months later.

He was fully justified in his team selections yesterday, the result was everything. But as a pointer to future progress it told us nothing.

I think he'll revolutionise the squad in the summer loads of youngins coming in and playing proper front foot Howeball

Absolutely no chance of a squad revolution happening.

Liverpool under Klopp had a similar season and then pushed on again. They also had immense quality up front. Next season will be better.
