They played their biggest game in forever two and a half days ago and still had enough in the tank for a late equaliser.  At some point that ‘Eddie needs one game a week’ added benefit should be kicking in.

We know what the problems are. They pretty much all lead back to last summer (both in the outgoings and incomings). Small tweaks and little improvements here and there is all I really expect between now and the end of the season.

This summer is huge, but with an actual DOF and CEO in place, and hopefully shipping out Gordon early, we can rebuild significantly.

We can go around in circles many times over, it’s been discussed at length on here.

He had the funds available in the summer and January to “turn it around” and this what we’ve ended up with.

He’s moulded the squad into what he wanted, he wouldn’t have signed off on the transfers in the summer otherwise. You think we should give him another boatload of cash to blow on crap again this summer?

I'd give him the summer to buy a better striker option and sort the keeper situation out. Dunno what's braindead about that

Good, logical reasoning in your counter argument there

The manager is responsible for our system, attacking play, defending, mentality, fitness, final say on transfers  and everything else. It’s literally his job.

Are our players worse than Forest’s, Sunderland’s, Brighton’s, Brentford’s etc? Nope, they’re comfortably better.

So what else is responsible for our superior players consistently not creating, not scoring, conceding, looking disinterested, and losing/dropping points to inferior opposition?

A goal, and another 3 one on ones is plenty to win in a game like that I think. That's before the Osula free kick as well. I thought the performance as a whole was better than Brighton on that basis really.

There's only really the Osula one on one that I'd call a "good chance", unless I'm misremembering the others. He took the chance exactly how you'd expect Osula to take the chance, by having to look down at the ball to control it and being totally unaware of how much time he had to hit it first time.

When you have players Osula up top a "good chance" becomes a half chance. We basically need to be creating sitters, which we aren't really doing at all.

It was the mackems home game where it all changed for me***. Sitting there at FT trying to process what I'd just seen. Not because we lost, in the last 25 years I've probably seen them win more than us at SJP. They got six bookings that day, we got one for dissent. I realised then that too many players were not playing for Howe and he could no longer motivate many of them. Its not practical to change 10-15 players, so the next best thing is to change the manager. It looks like we aren't doing that which is a mistake.

Football is all about momentum and the start of the new season is often dictated by the mood rolling over from the end of the last season. We need a lift in pre season. If Howe does stay it needs to be a full team rebuild with less athletes and something new happening pre season in terms of formation and style of play. If next season starts in this mood we'll be in real trouble.

*** TBH I was fucking worried after the 4-0 pre season loss to Celtic.

I'd take loads of Forest, mackem, Brighton and Brentford players over Woltemade. And most of their keepers.

That will sort us out

It really wouldn’t.

Massively disagree, they were ran all over by Villa 3 days ago and had key players missing today. We played Palace who rested their best players and got beat and got beat off Sunderland at home who had  around 6 first team players missing.

Yes I’m aware of all that thanks… but I made peace a month ago that nothing’s going to really improve / change without 4-5 players in and out this summer.

Not sure why people are surprised if we don’t all of a sudden start playing beautiful football, when the issues with the squad (particularly up front) have been evident for a while.

Move the goalposts all you like, it's not fickle to expect a bit better after he spent over 200 million pounds.

I haven't moved any goalposts, you're trying to justify personal abuse of our most successful manager in modern times. That makes you fickle and entitled in my eyes, and you're not going to change my mind.

I notice you joined just after the take-over, who did you support before that?

One window. We didn't buy anyone in January.

Two dud signings and he's out on his ear doesn't seem like the brightest move going

Bruno twice. On he played straight at Sels and the other was a good save then just out of Osula's reach.

Had the opportunity to put it right in January and didn’t.

What about the rest of the signings, the football that’s currently being served up?

I’m not willing to lay the blame solely at Eddie’s door for last summer’s window like. You can paint your agenda that way if you want, but if you have no structure in place to go out and get the players that were much higher on the list, what do you expect.

The owners should take far more responsibility for that.

(Eddie’s not blameless of course, but 90% of his transfers in his tenure have been outstanding… there’s no reason why we can’t move forward with another good run of transfers)

Or just people willing to allow one of our best managers of all time to put things right in the summer?

Or continue to drift into mediocrity, let's be fair. We are going backwards at the moment.

Agree in the main, but asking for some improvement since the international break isn’t that much to ask.

It’s not the individual players it’s the weak as piss mindset across the squad, which has been going on for so long that the finger has to point at the coaching staff who are unable to drill into the players that they need to protect positions where we’ve almost got points in the bag.

Doesn't matter who’s playing, the team fucks up in the same way game after game after game. So for me, that’s down to the manager and coaching staff.

A few times a season stings, but that’s football. But this has been going on consistently since August.

It's a chicken and egg situation though. We saw Man City completely fold without Rodri, not a single person on this planet would have guessed how mentally fucked the would look after losing 1 player.

My biggest worry is that Howe will continue to be stubborn and go with the same style/setup and similar type of players (especially out wide). Can't overlook how poor his in game management is overall too. I want him to have another season in a way but at the same time I'm not sure I believe in big changes from him. Don't see how we will evolve unless we prioritize creativity and technical ability a bit more. He seems dead set on athleticism (especially out wide). We need a bit of balance.

I think there HAS been an improvement last couple of games. But the glaring issue all season has been the striker situation, and that isn’t going to change until the summer.

Thought Howe was pretty unlucky today TBH. Went for a different formation, mixed it up well, we had loads of attacks we wasted due to individual lack of quality.

Subs were great, led to a goal, we let one in at the end to throw away the win.
