There's plenty on here who are better connected than me but from what I've been told there's been a big misunderstanding about that Ornstein article.

The club are working on the assumption that he'll be here next season but that's always been the case. The Ornstein article is written (intentionally or not) as if something has fundamentally changed, like beating Brighton means they are definitely not going to sack him, but that isn't correct. The next three (now two) games still matter.

Would be extremely harsh to place any importance on 2 fairly meaningless end of season games just before a World Cup summer like. I hope that’s not really how they’ll make this decision.

They'll make it on reflection over the whole season I imagine.

Sure, and hopefully previous seasons as well. I just mean that decision could’ve been made already, we have the data.

If we lost both of the remaining fixtures by 3 or more goals like a collapse it may well still impact but I agree with the wider point a manager change/decision following a poor league campaign likely wont move the needle one way or another based on 2 games from the already aligned strategy/direction I assume was agreed when the met a few weeks ago.

Still hoping they don't feel its all meaningless mind the usual professional pride/ wanting to end as strong as possible/ every league place worth 3/4m so financial incentive for the club should still mean the squad should care enough to want to win.

FWIW I think the board will stick with Howe based on the previous seasons as well. Personally I think it is just kicking the can down the road.

The top sides play possession football, we don't, and I don't think we have done that even last season. I think we have probably gone as far as we can playing the way we do, and we had to really get last summer right if we wanted to either replicate it, or move in a different direction. I don't see much evidence of us moving in a different direction anyway.

I think people are expecting Howe to bounce back with another transfer window, no Europe. I imagine the pressure will pile on quick when we aren’t a top 5 side.

I don't have top 5 expectations. 7th or 8th is about par for our squad

A top class keeper and 20 goal striker will improve us massively.

Oh aye, I'm not saying we can't, Howe's overachieved before.

But with the comings and goings I'm expecting us to take a financial hit on getting shot of some dead wood. It might leave us short on incoming players to fill out the squad. Whoever comes in will have to hit the ground sprinting for us to get top 5

Man utd comfortably achieved top four this year with no europe and a change of manager.

You'd think we'd be up there.

I don't see them as a real football team. I can honestly respect every ither team in the league because they did it in an organic way at some point or another. City? Just threw money at it. Robinho going to City was a fucking joke. Hell, I can respect Chelsea, they were doing things in the 90s.

City's a boss fight. They're far superior to every team in the league. Before them, I felt like there was somewhat of an even playing ground, Liverpool got 97 points and still lost the league. Look at what Arsenal are doing to win the league, the most disgusting ugly horrific football possible. Because City have stacked the deck. You can only hope they have an off year. I hate 'em. Sign Grealish for 100m, sign Savinho, sign Negredo, sign Nasri, sign Adebayor, sign Toure, Clichy, they can sign whoever they want, they can all do shit and they'll sell them all and buy another 10 players. There's not jeopardy with them. They have bloody Haaland up top ffs. That's not man, that's a machine.

PSR means Man City can’t stack the deck vs their rivals - they’ve just been better run

What manager in his right mind is going to announce to the footballing world that we're going to be splashing any kind of cash in the next window? What manager is going to burn bridges with players he might have to keep if no one is in for them? Bit of common sense folks?

Re outgoings I agree - but we know football clubs’ finances and what they can spend.  Howe and his nephew mortgaged us to the eyeballs last summer with their splurge - we have to sell to buy.  There’s no smoke and mirrors going on with that - they’ve had their big spending window under the rules and absolutely fucked it.

Fair play, you’re obviously expecting a great summer window. I find it hard to be that optimistic

We have no money to have a great summer window.

How much have we got?

Said it at the weekend but heading into the season with expectations of happily finishing 8th isn't good enough.

In the last few years there's been clubs with far less investment achieved better than that. We can't use the summer recruitment as an excuse either, we wanted Elanga and Wissa.

After what we spent last summer it won't be a huge amount, that much is obvious. Most of our budget will be from what we bring in from sale which is why if the likes of Gordon are away I'd rather it was done quickly so that we can invest sensibly rather than over priced last minute panic buys.

Sell to buy I would have thought, although we could always buy first then sell later depending on what SCR enforcement allows.

Would also let clubs know that we are in a position where we HAVE to sell to comply with the rules and puts us in a really poor negotiating position though.

There will be an element of selling to fund buys undoubtedly, but our squad is also pretty full so we need to sell/release for headcount as much as revenue

I think part of our settlement with UEFA for whatever breach we did is that it has to be one out - one in, so we're probably already snookered unless we're still negotiating with UEFA
