Not just creating off our high presses. First half when we were knocking it about nicely. It was only really Murphy and to a lesser degree, Tonali (his loose passing) that were bad in possession across the whole XI. In general and on the day. Agreed. If Barnes finishes that cross, it’s a superb team goal and most likely a nervy 3-2 win. Oh well!
Lotus
We were awesome first half. We were soooooooooo open in the second half, CMs were absent so often, we were ragged trying to recover as they transitioned. I won’t apportion blame. Might have been Eddie wanted it tighter and the players ignored him (problem in itself) or he was ok with vulnerable we were systematically in the second half. Was certainly exciting. If either team had got a third there could’ve been no complaints. Shame about our finishing. Wont blame the officials for that result.
Vinny Green Balls
I'll blame the officials. Clear cut penalty and two marginal ones. We produced enough to win the game. We had the clear chaces after they tied it up. Edited December 20, 2025 by Vinny Green Balls
Geordie Ahmed
2nd half we weren't as good but we still had the Barnes chance, one blatant penalty and another decent shout, plus Elanga shot which if he passed is another great chance
Sibierski
Felt like it was Howe greatest hits today’s game. The first half, pressing, man marking, intent, all coming from the training pitch and what we know of us from 22-23. Second half, slow start, off it, no changes, momentum all gone, equaliser before changes. Midfield wide open, nothing done to stop that. The good and the bad. There is a major mentality issue with our squad because we can play well (shown first half) but any adversity like 2nd half and we crumble. Mix that in with Howe often a dear in headlights in those situations which contributes and it just constantly feels like one step forward, one step back. I’ve written off getting UCL this season. At best it could be 7th, but think even that will be hard with the away games we have to play. 60 points will be a shock to me, because I think we’ll struggle to get even mid 50s. Just got to finish above Sunderland and/or win a cup now.

And it took a worldie and a Thiaw slip for them to get back into the game. Blame Howe and the players for a fair few perfrmances this season, but they don't deserve it for this game. Liverpool win today it’s 6 points off them and Chelsea. With both to play away (and many other hard away games) and it’s very hard with all the other cup games we have. We effectively need to get 46 points from next 21 games IMO. Which going back to the away games we have to play, that’s going to be near impossible. Thrown away too many points early on in this season.

Just saying a worldie and slip is all that it was 2nd half completely ignores what happened. Garnacho had like 4+ shots inside our box that half. They were running through at will for like 25 mins non stop that 2nd half from the moment it kicked off We had chances to win it thanks to the sheer open nature of that game, rather than anything tactical 2nd half. True, just hoping a couple of the teams above us goes on bad runs while we’re on a good one.

It's not. In fact I think you are doing that here. We had far more clear cut chances than they did, even in the second half. We were also cutting through them at will with greater frequency. We were the better team.

Some of them on Eddie some of them not. But we are still in the CL and in the semi in the Carabao. Not to mention the FA Cup. Season is not done!! Still a few points of 4th with a load of winnable games in January, we just have to get our shit together and everyone has to contribute the way Miley did when given a chance. The Butcher
That first half is probably the performance since the cup final, if memory serves. We looked absolutely brilliant.

Yorkie
With the injuries we've got, and our inability to perform on the road, personally I don't think it's likely that we build the momentum to mount a serious charge for the top five, regardless of the present closeness. I thought Wissa, Livramento and Hall all coming back at the same time might have unlocked our potential but it doesn't look like they're going to share the pitch any time soon, and by the time they do there'll be a lot of fatigue. However, the key word in that is potential - because I think that's one of a few words you could use to sum us up (inconsistent and dysfunctional are some more glass-half-empty ones you might choose). There's loads of talent in the squad and we're not that far away from being really good. Erase just a couple of our very late concessions and we're right in the mix. The summer - mainly Isak going but also the inability to sign our first choice striker and goalkeeper, and probably backing the wrong horse with Elanga - has set us back to a place where we're knocking at the door rather than having a foot in it. A midtable finish with cup runs feels 'right' for us atm. There's no great shame in that imo, but unsure if the execs will think the same.
midds
Can't really knock Howe for his management today really. Really disappointed by how we've regressed with out mentality and attitude but that was spot on from the first whistle today - it was exactly what I wan to see from my team and they delivered for those first 35 minutes and on another day we would have been 3 or 4 up and the game would have been put to bed much earlier. Chelsea and Maresca clearly upped their levels, don't think it was a conscious decision from Howe to sit back from 35-75 minutes, that was Chelsea raising their levels and we had no choice but to try and defend against a very good team. The only are I thought he could have done better was with changing things after about 60 mins, they were clearly on top and we were looking tired again and he just let it drift a bit until they got their second and then he reacted and we got a bit of momentum back. Could have won it, could have lost it and the ref and VAR were a disgrace but I thought a point was about right in the end. Lovely to see that the intensity we once had is still there and we need to see it more often. Thought Miley was superb, Tonali looking much better, Gordon actually tried today too and Hall also looked impressive. The signs are there, we had to see a reaction after the derby surrender and we got it, just wasn't quite enough to get all 3 points unfortunately

Could see it as early as the free kick we gave away for the goal, far too much space afforded to whoever stood in AM. Can't blame Howe for Schar and Bruno going walkies though. Optimistic Nut
Don't think he did anything wrong today. Approached it correctly, they were always going to have moments in the game with the quality they have. I think if we played last Sunday & today the exact same way 10 times, we come away with 4 rather than just 1 point 8 or 9 of those occasions.

I just think they stepped it up noticeably and sometimes you just need to hang on and try and defend it as best as possible. They were always going to have a spell when they were on top and dominating and that was it, they've got some really good players and were in 4th gear and going for it. Not an awful lot you can do to keep good teams out for the full 90 mins
Geogaddi
It's easy to see who knows ball and who has no idea.
