If you want to be a club that competes at the top end of the table consistently, you normally look to improve the depth by bringing in either better players or different styles of players though. The players you've already got then ideally become the "depth".

So far it looks to me like we've signed more of the same in terms of style, and arguably worse footballers - certainly no better anyway.

At this stage you could only really argue that Thiaw has improved us.

Yep.  You don’t sign ‘squad players’ - you sign players who can step straight in, with current first teamers potentially becoming ‘squad players’.  Overpaying for a Willock clone isn’t ‘depth’.

This is his fourth full season in charge. The seasons we don’t have European football, we finish in the top 5. The seasons where we do have European football, we don’t. (I’m assuming this season we don’t.)

I sense a pattern.

He deserves the rest of this season, if we don’t finish in a Europa league spot minimum then for me, I’d sack him at the end of the season.
The expectation has to be Europe is a red line, we have the squad and have spent good money, he has no excuses to not deliver that IMO.

Yeah we go into the summer and review then.

I mean sure, aye. But you have to make it to next season?

If we finish 10th, drop out CL in the knockouts without more than a cup semi, I don't really see the good faith stretching til another season. Shall see though.

I’d say that is pretty much nailed on now. All the more reason I’d like to give Howe the chance to sort it out during the summer.

Not really, he’s proven without European football (which is very likely now) we can be a top 5 team.

Brilliant; so as long as we avoid Europe, we can be qualifying for Europe.

There is a problem with the logic, can’t quite put my finger on it…

Unless our new transfer policy works wonders then I don't see him to be the man to be able to turn things around next season if we don't qualify for any sort of European football.

Unless our transfer policy works wonders I don't see anyone else being able to turn thi gs around OTHER than Howe.

Sick to death of soft cunts on here bailing out on him.

Yes, it has to improve, and Howe knows it as well as anyone but there’s absolutely no way we should be turning on him.

He signed Ramsey and Elanga for 95 million, refuses to budge for lesser players from abroad at times, I hope new transfer policy has younger cheaper players come in as spunked a lot of money to be sitting mid table with our rivals well above us

A tiny part of me wants him to get sacked so we hire an “upgrade” just to see how spectacularly that experiment fails.

Just look at Spurs to see how that works out.

The noise will grow louder but Eddie still has my full support

Only fear of relegation is what should result in him losing his job

He starts next season but more of the same and I can see him being in bother

However, I do trust he will work things out, maybe not necessarily this season but certainly next

Referring to how Conte and Mourinho treated the Spurs job.  Which they both thought was beneath them and didn't even try.

Both ex chelsea managers were on a hiding to nothing soon as results went iffy.

Likewise.  He has to be given the season unless the home form starts to go the way of the away form.

2 isn’t a pattern. And the first was a 7th finish with only 6 less points than we managed the next season.
We were genuinely good the 7th season either side of the injury crisis.

We’ve been shut this season from MD1

What has he changed with us this season?

He now has Wissa available to him and he’s both not playing him aside from the cup game, and when he does bring him on, he takes off Woltemade instead playing 2 up front.

His subs when he does make them, appears to be change the wingers, which doesn’t seem to work at any point.

What could he change ? Wissa still isnt trusted for 90 fitness wise. Until now 433 seemed like the best he could get...... going forward with a fit Wissa and Wolt with an Osula or someone else off the bench. Then Ill be asking as (and Ive banged this drum plenty) Nick ain't a 9.

Same.

In certain we’ll be back to permanently mid table.

The big issue has been the leadership. This entire project has lost steam, momentum, direction and belief.  We’ll continue to throw around the 7th/8th most money in the league. But smart thinking ? Nope.

We've rarely been permanent midtable TBF, mostly been Europe or relegation.

Rather this than finishing bottom half most seasons and never competitive, remember those days?
