The BBC voting public are much more pro-Howe than the forum.

This is nonsense, as you've got no way of knowing who actually voted and who they actually support.

Yeah 100%, I was thinking it could be a load of Sunderland fans hoping for our downfall. Still interesting to see the difference.

95% of voters will be other clubs.

I must admit, I'm perplexed by the situation if I'm honest. Are the recruitment department as a whole that bad at maths they thought our business was sustainable?

Massively concerning that long term planning is evidently not a thing at the club.

We didn't really have a recruitment department last summer. I'm guessing the hierarchy have probably accepted some responsibility for that and hence willing to give some grace to Howe for that.

That doesn't necessarily mean he gets a free pass, just that they take some culpability as well.

I can imagine the mess, especially as our top targets all started knocking us back.

That should have been anticipated better than it was. I think there is better clarity now on roles and what is expected of each department. Last summer was a shitshow, Jamie Rueben going cap in hand to Isak's home was evidence of that.

Everything that's online is usually nonsense in terms of representation tbh, including here, but especially Twitter.

Yep - I’ve no idea where the ‘majority’ of fans sit on any issue, and wouldn’t claim to pretend to know.

Absolutely the blame is to be spread around for sure, but ultimately squad building and understanding value cant be solely the responsibility of those holding the purse strings.

I should have also pre faced my original post by saying it seems the penny has dropped and we have to look for more value, I'm just wondering what took them so long

Even having to choose a side is quite an online thing really. Plenty of fans will be generally unhappy with Howe because we’re losing, hope we can improve soon because it’s not so fun going to the match. That will be about it.

Lose to Brighton be interesting the swing

I don't think it will. By this point 99% are fully aware the wheels have come off. It really just depends whether you think Howe should lead the summer rebuild or we should part company.

Without knowing the inner details, I think Mitchell tried to go down the value route and that ended up with the stand off with Howe. The club backed Howe based on our previous transfer success and his stature earned through success, and Mitchell ended up parting ways.

With Wilson now in place, I think we have gone back to a more realistic recruitment policy which Howe has accepted.

I know :embarrassed: problem is, I do think they will beat us.

I think the performance is as important as the result. We need more than a win.

Good thing if he's had their backing but will be interesting if we lose/don't pick up many points in our final 4 games.

I've said it before but the St James' crowd is yet to turn, but it is very close to imo. Not necessarily just on Howe - I don't think that would ever truly happen - but it's certainly been bubbling in the last few games. You can really feel it, and it's the performances more than anything. I think a poor performance against Brighton and West Ham and it will be difficult to see a way back.

Some good showings in the games left (especially at home) are equally as important as the results. I think so anyway. The season is dead now so the shackles should be off, but If tomorrow is as bad as the last few home games then it could turn nasty, which nobody wants.

Just listening to his presser, lots of mention of 'evolving' and 'changing' 'generally across the football club'.

Also, when asked about Wissa and Woltemade last week, he mentioned there being 'a potential partnership there'.

Interesting.

Just cannot fathom why there hasn’t been a potential partnership sooner. Shocked he’s considering a change tbh.

Eddie clearly refusing to walk away from a £6mil a year contract.  From his presser the next four games sound crucial to him keeping his job.

He had to find a way to justifying signing them to PIF

"The club failed to secure any of our first choice targets and failed to keep hold of Isak so we were scrambling at the last minute" is a pretty straightforward defence.
