GeordieT
Quote Eddie Howe has told Kieran Trippier that he wants him to stay at Newcastle United next season. The England defender has been heavily linked with a move away to the Saudi Pro League this summer, with Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq credited with an interest. However, there have been no bids for the 33-year-old and The Times understands that Howe, who is the FA’s leading choice to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager, met Trippier this week to tell him he was still a key part of his plans for next season. Trippier is entering the final year of his contract at St James’ Park and is one of the best-paid players at the club, on about £130,000 a year. He had been told new contract talks would start soon, but the management change that has taken place at the club in the past month, with the departure of the co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, has so far derailed those negotiations. https://www.thetimes.com/sport/football/article/transfer-window-latest-moves-t56xxqkw6

BoSelecta
Howe wants to keep trippier, Howe angry he didn’t get a chance to assess Minteh in pre season, Howe foaming at Elliot Anderson exit. According to the papers Howe’s understanding of PSR is worse than the NO collective. And that’s before we cast our minds back to every other player we’ve flogged - Howe wanted to keep them all. They know fuck all.

christ
I’m happy to keep him. If there’s not a need to sell him for PSR purposes then I’m not sure why we’d get rid tbh. Most clubs would kill to have a pro like Trippier around the place, even if he’s increasingly going to have to play second fiddle to Tino.
Groundhog63
If he stays he'll start against Saints. I mean why wouldn't he? He's England's LB/RB from the Euros.

They don’t have to kill - just pay £10m, he’s getting on and will go on a free next year, we need to get better at cashing in
TRon
We should have sold him to Bayern for the reported £13m in January. I said it then, I'll say it again now. Maybe we hoped keeping him would pay off by getting us into Europe but if so, it was a gamble which failed and we've sold young assets instead. I’m much happier that we’re gambling on getting on Europe than gambling on survival like recent years. You win some you lose some.

Fwiw, it was later reported their third and final offer was something like £6m, having started lower.

It was just reported again today in the Times it was £13m but we were looking for closer to £20m. People on here say it was as low as £2m so I just go with the journalists over the posters on here for the most part, although none of it is verified.
