Sven Botman back late December/early January 'at the earliest' (Howe)

Got to be careful not to expect too much from him for months to come, but have to admit I'm imagining him getting back to his best eventually. Will be an absolute gutter if he's lost anything long term.

I’d still be amazed if he plays in January, it would be an incredibly quick recovery from the type of injury he sustained.

End of January would give him 10 weeks to build up to match fitness.

Do we know, is he actually training with the first team or just back around the place working on his own?

If he's training competitive with a ball at his feet, then he will be back before the end of January. If he's not then you may be correct.

Says he's back out with the team, so competitive? Maybe we'll see more training photos soon enough to confirm.

Yeah if he's training like the rest of the first team then they consider him injury free and it's just a case of getting match fit but with having so long out he could be miles off it.

I'm sure with Bunce in place there will be no risks taken. Hopefully he's back as soon as he's able, seeing as he is a big miss for us. Krafu took until the following season to regain total fitness and speed recovery,  he is back to his best now, but was "fit" yet not fully up to his peak after returning to 1st team competitive football after his CL injury layoff. Don't know if this is a thing for all CL injury recoveries or if its individual specific.

Botman recorded one of the fastest running speed in EPL history last season before injury

Sometimes people really got misled by tall players body build.

I'm sure he's a bit swifter than was widely reported but this can't be right, surely 🤪

January would be 10 months post op which in an elite setting is ample time given they have specific rehab daily. I get my Joe Public ACLs back running by 12 weeks, kicking a ball with basic drills 6 months, non contact drills from 9 months, full contact 12 months.

So I guess it must be a confidence / mental / rustiness issue when it takes them another 6/12 months to get back to their previous form?

I don't imagine he'll be back to his best too soon after he's back

Considering how he seemed to damage it, came back early, and then admitted defeat in March, and that Lascelles did his just two weeks later but isn't anywhere near coming back, would it be possible it wasn't a normal ACL 'complete tear' for Botman and just some sort of damage?

I'm just a layman but both Tino and Krafth were out for circa 350 days with theirs, so this 9-10 month return seems strange?

Must be the same running stats from a few years ago that had Paul Dummett running the 100 metres on a par with Usain Bolt

Hope he comes back close to the 22/23 version we saw and not the 23/24 post injury version.

Because he was a shadow of himself during that spell, so I hope he was just playing injured, although all the sound bites coming from him at the time was that he was 100% healthy and the knee wasn't effecting him.

So I hope he was lying because we need the old Botman back. I think it will be next season before he's back to form from previous other player examples.

I can’t directly comment on either Krafths or Tino’s surgery (well or any of them for that matter lol). An ACL usually is either ruptured and needs surgery or its not. Some athletes in the NFL have played with a ruptured ACL for a full season without issue, it’s rare though. Clearly there was some discussion over Botman as to whether it was to the extent it needed surgery. I think one of the consultants in Italy that a lot of them go to uses a synthetic graft rather than hamstring which speeds up rehab time (as a normal graft requires time to profilerate and strengthen).

I wouldn’t be concerned about a Jan return at all. He’ll be under constant daily monitoring, his leg strength outcome measures and plyometric leg strength will be assessed endlessly and then they’ll phase hims back into training drills.

I would imagine there was a high degree of lacking trust/confidence in the knee. Ironically there is often a greater risk in rupturing the opposite knee after surgery and rehab so he should be fine once he’s back.

Agree, reckon it’ll be more like February / March myself.

If his surgeon and physios have said he’s ready to play be mental to randomly decide not to play him regularly until next season.

The club always said 9 months, and December/January is ~9months post surgery. So far his recovery is all going to plan - course he may pick up niggles which delay him.

Hes now back in training but my guess is he won’t be doing the full contact sessions yet, hence it’s another 2 months

I think the 9 months is a realistic timeframe, he's been training for a while.   He also doesn't strike me as someone who would struggle mentally after an injury but he is young and he is a big asset so we shouldn't rush him back.   I do think he will be back around that time though and I hope it goes well for him as he is such a key player for us and we have missed him a lot. There is an insane drop off from him to Burn at Cb in terms of the confidence and structure of the back 4.  Especially with Schar ageing a little.

Misssed his passing out from the back too.
