Sven Botman: Out for up to 8 weeks after minor Knee operation (Howe)

Recommended Posts

Hope:

"Newcastle will not take any risks with Sven Botman during the remainder of this season, and only after knee surgery will the extent of his absence be known.

Mail Sport revealed this week that the defender is set for an operation after seeing a specialist on Tuesday, and that will rule him out of the Carabao Cup final on March 16.

Botman will no doubt be determined to return before the end of May, especially as the issue is not thought to be too serious and is not connected to the ACL injury that kept him out for 10 months before his return in January. That is the good news.

However, the 25-year-old’s season could yet be over if medical staff decide the risk outweighs the reward in him playing before the end of the campaign. That is a consideration for down the line.

Botman was outstanding after his comeback in January, but he has not been seen since limping out of the 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final second leg win over Arsenal a month ago. It was hoped he would have returned by now, but this week’s specialist opinion has advised that surgery is the best way forward."

Yep standard Arthroscopy to clean up bone fragments \ trim cartlidge etc. would be a quick recovery time but would be too tight for the final in my opinion, not a doctor but I have had 5 of the buggers!

Minor surgery to clear out some fluid and then potentially back before the end of the season.

I'd just make sure he's spot on for pre-season at this point. Seems this kind of injury comes with the territory for an ACL recovery.

Wonder if we need to try and move him on, he's a bit injury prone.

Considering both our CBs are snail pace'd anyway might be worth trying to find someone who isnt made of lego and has a bit of recovery pace.

Not at the moment we don't.

Botman is class, he doesn't require huge amounts of pace because his reading of the game is second to none.

We were warned that the road to recovery could be quite a long one, it's not like he's breaking down with soft tissue injuries all of the time.

It also shows it's worth waiting to have a decent amount of information before playing the blame game, no matter how frustrating these things can be.

Unrelated injuries are commonplace after prior long term serious injuries. Ridiculous to completely write the guy off.

If it’s 8 weeks at best, you are basically either bringing him back for a massive home game against Chelsea, away to Arsenal or final game of season. I’ll be more surprised if he’s back for any of those, just write him off and get him on a full recovery to hit ground running in July.

Not writing him off at all, he's a good player and by far our best CB.

He has missed 62 games from 5 seperate injuries, the last four being knee related with him due to miss more games come the end of the year.

Hes only any use to us if he's on the green stuff rather than in the physio room.

How many more knee related injuries does he need to have? If he continues having knee problems we wont be able to shift him as he will be getting the Demba Ba knee comparisons.

Callum Wilson has missed 57 games in same period from 9 injuries, 3 being hamstring related.

I'm wondering if there's more to this than is being said, why an operation, when from what I've read it's a case of draining fluid using a needle, and pain relief occurs within 24hrs but I've also read it can be masking something else.
