Wonder if they'll recoup anything from another gullible promoted team. Just keep passing him on to the next promoted ones.

Give him the dream Burnley return.

Think Burnley want to play football now.

Really an incredible piece of business. All in (incoming fees + wages saved) between him and Shelvey this probably unlocked close to £30M if we assume Shelvey would have triggered his extension. You can mentally account for that however you want, but it's a huge help for our summer business.

And a lot of people wanted to keep Shelvey. Brilliant work in the summer and winter.

Whoever insisted on the length of the  trigger for the permanent transfer has more than earned his keep. Vital as the usual length seen in contracts would have seen him in all likelihood still at the club, with respect of when his injury occurred.

I'm sure I read it was done like that so Forest didn't have to make payment until the next financial year otherwise it would have been done immediately in January

What on Earth were they thinking, cheers for taking our one bad transfer off our hands :juicy:

I still say with no striker and relegation in the balance, grabbing a striker with a minimum release clause to help stay in the PL made absolute sense given Newcastle were striking out at every turn. Teams WANTED Newcastle to go down. Seemed like nobody wanted to do business. Get that new money out of here. The fact that over half that cost was sent back by Forrest made it decent deal Eddie was obviously happy with. Am I glad he's gone? Yea. Did a job.

I can remember at least one game where he scored to earn a point against Man City and they barely stayed up so he’s probably earned his fee already.

Definitely a gamble that paid off. Was nervous at the time with Isak and Wilson injury records and the potential strain on midfield but it worked.

Just seen that forest will make the deal permanent when the transfer window opens (source bbc sport - forest to release lingard and 5 others).

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65789316

"Serge Aurier has triggered an automatic one-year extension on his deal, while the club have confirmed striker Chris Wood's loan from Newcastle United will become a permanent transfer when the window re-opens."

Lingard released, not getting him might prove to be one of the best bits of transfer business we did in that January window.

Will always remember him fondly for being a positive presence and part of the side that kept us up. The transfer could not have worked out better for us given we stayed up and sold him on so quickly. Top man

Came in when we needed a focal point, did a decent job - dare I say a fairly underrated job in leading our press. All in all a great transfer, gave us what we needed and we've recouped a fair bit of the value. That video of him walking into the dressing room after scoring a winner and hearing the whole squad cheering was class.

Wish him nothing but the best - hope he can find some form at Forest.

Targett hasn´t looked great exactly.

Should get more or less our money back for him. I’m sure a lower mid table team would give us £8-10m once he’s back up to fitness.

You think he has been a sucsessful signing so far?

Yeah, absolutely. Never lets us down when he is allowed on the pitch.

Absolutely. Cheap, when he's been in the side has looked great, has only been kept out by injury and the current back 5 being the best in the league.
