No problem being slow as a 6, you just need your defence to have recovery pace and your team showing passing options.

Rodri and Busquets are slow, yet the greatest CDMs in recent years and helped by being in systems that cover their weaknesses and maximises their strengths. We are not doing that with Bruno, and expect him to be just like Longstaff and co.

Captain or not, we just need to play him in a proper position and not this bit of everything CM role we want all our CMs to be.

Either have him as the CDM, taking ball of CBs and recycling play. Play him alongside a CDM, where he’s the progrsssive ball carrier between the CDM and attackers, or play him ahead of CDM where he’s mostly in and around opposition box and not needed to make recovery runs (which he doesn’t have the pace for).

He’s got to take responsibility, but he’s not helped (like many others) with how we set up.

Agree. He's unfortunately not doing any of those roles well at the moment and looks like he needs a rest. After Man City, I reckon he needs a rest for a week. On his form this season, he isn't undroppable.

He’s quite a bit off the pace at the moment. Anyway, came on to say, again, he often strikes the ball like he’s pushing it with his foot. It’s how he gifted the 3rd goal, you expect him to ping it or strike through the ball and instead he looks like he’s shovelling coal. It’s very annoying.

Don't understand how a lad in his mid 20s with a huge amount of stamina and technical ability in the world is so slow

Have you seen how he runs and how uncoordinated he is generally with his arms? Its pretty remarkable, I’d love to see him with a golf club.

The problem to me isn't his pace as much as how long it takes him sometimes to release the ball, in his position pace isn't needed as much as the abillity to pick out a pass.

Thats a general theme with a number of our players - it actually really annoys me how long they hold the ball for

We literally can’t seem to string any passes together

He looks like when he was injured 2/3s into 22/23.

I do wonder if protecting him more while he gets through this patch would be a good move. Wouldn't be against a 4-2-3-1.

I'd love to see us play 4-2-3-1. We need that protection In front of the back 4 as the amount of times we're hurt or nearly hurt by that huge gap between defence and midfield is so alarming. Bruno and Tonali playing there would be fantastic I feel.

This a million times over - Bruno and Tonali hold - then Willock or Big Joe in front to support Isak

We simply can’t continue with a flat 3 - it’s hurting us

We said this a year ago when Brighton turned us over though. Nothing gets done about it. It’s 4–3-3 or nothing.

It’s actually really worrying - we simply haven’t evolved - to play a flat 3 you need to be good in possession - we can hardly string a couple of passes together it seems - the fact that he’s making subs after 45 mins now suggests to me that EH is getting worried - that’s not a good sign either

We stood still in the summer

CB CM RW needed refreshing - we couldn’t do it

I don't think it's too much to do with the formation but rather our application. We simply haven't pressed well enough and won the ball as high up on the pitch as possible.

The change of formation at half time certainly helped but I don't think it or any other personnel adjustment would make a great bit if difference at this stage, we need more intensity.

There’s been zero pressing all season
