alexf Posted Wednesday at 19:47 Share Posted Wednesday at 19:47 Yeah disagree about 1 more good season out of him. He has zero pace as it is, so it's not like him slowing down due to age would really make a difference. He looks like the sort of player who will keep a similar steady level til mid 30's. He’ll be 28 come end of next season and not many Brazilian CMs go into their 30s at a high level. He doesn’t have much pace to lose. Next summer (2026) we’d have to commit to a £200k+ 4/5 year deal that would take him through to like 34, which would be a mistake IMO. I know he's slow as a snail, but I feel his game doesn't revolve around his athleticism so much, compared to a Joelinton etc Can see him being a bit like Gundogan in style, and going for a while longer. But who knows, he could do a Casemiro or be a Thiago Silva But I'd agree next summer will be the last time we can command a big fee for him

There are plenty of well documented reasons why, all I’d add is he doesn’t rely on pace so will be a top-tier player well into his 30s. Yeah. I did it. andyc35i Posted Thursday at 09:57 Share Posted Thursday at 09:57 It’s pretty pathetic that we have to even contemplate selling our captain to balance books that don’t actually need to be balanced. Bruno should be here for 10 years as the heartbeat of the club, overseeing us winning titles
Sibierski Posted Thursday at 10:33 Share Posted Thursday at 10:33 But it wouldn't be selling to balance books if there's even a small substance to it. Be 2nd season of no UCL/Europe, in Brunos prime years where he would've been told we'd be in Europe at this point. So a mutual agreement that if an offer comes in for X value, club would sell. All part of attracting players here needs to be 'give us your all, and we won't stand in your way to leave if a good offer comes in". Ideally you keep hold of main guys as you regularly qualify for Europe, compete for trophies and they go on a free/final year of deal for low value. We're not there, so realism needs to come into play.
huss9 Posted Thursday at 10:40 Share Posted Thursday at 10:40 yeah if there's an agreement where he said he would stay another year to get CL then it at least needs the conversation with him if we dont make it.

This is all down to PSR, otherwise we don't need to sell him at all. But if we want to continue to make signings, the only way under PSR restrictions is to make profits on players. Ideally we qualify for the CL, that way we won't even need to consider selling.
Dokko Posted Thursday at 10:59 Share Posted Thursday at 10:59 £60m for Bruno, £70m for Isak. Arsenal live on another planet.
Sibierski Posted Thursday at 13:45 Share Posted Thursday at 13:45 (edited) At his peak output and form, his release clause was £100m and teams were not interested. £60m feels too low considering there's still 3 years, think if we were to consider a sale something around £70m-£75m ball park would be required IMO. Tiresias Posted Thursday at 14:23 Share Posted Thursday at 14:23 (edited) If we dont make Europe of course players want to leave. There is a difference between telling Bruno that we won't stand in his way if he wants to leave in these circumstances assuming an acceptable fee, and Bruno actually wanting to leave. We need to raise money to buy, we need to rebuild the squad. I am of a mind that if a player wants to leave, as long as we get a good fee fine, we should take the money and will replace. The only exception would be Isak whom still has huge value and more than that I don't think can be replaced. We just need to spend the profits on more players than we sell, we need to start having replacements for the star players already in when we sell in future so there's no disruption to the team. timeEd32 Posted Thursday at 14:38 Share Posted Thursday at 14:38 Pretty sure my son would fully succumb to becoming an Arsenal supporter if that happened. For that reason it simply can't happen.

It's devastating at the time, but at least now we know we would use it to rebuild even stronger if possible. Imagine what it was like selling Beardsley, Waddle, Gazza etc when you knew it was just because we never thought we were big enough to keep them. I went to my first match in 1987 and loved Gazza and Waddle (to a lesser degree), Beardsley round one had already been sold. I'd never have followed another English club but I do get it as I had Marseille and Lazio tops once they had furthered their careers outside of England (this was at a time when we were still banned or the likelihood of Newcastle playing in Europe was a nigh on impossible scenario)
