Same here. There’s a lot of poor sides in the group stages but both teams are actually half decent. Should be a good game.

I wouldn't mind a 48 team world cup if it was the 48 best teams in the world.

 

Italy, Chile, Nigeria, Poland, Cameroon, Denmark all stalwarts missing out and one win potentially getting you through to the knockout has water downed the group stages

I’ve no sympathy for any of them - it’s never been easier to qualify and they still missed out.  Italy are absolutely shite - there’s a reason they’ve missed three in a row, just look at who knocked them out each time, too.  I think 48 is awkward and bloated and there’s loads of shite teams there, just as the 24-team WCs when I was a kid had shite group stages.

Top two used to qualify which would have qualified Denmark, Poland and Italy this time. 

Preferred that to Sweden qualifying by not winning a single group game, just because, and the extra content....err I mean playoff games

That’s not been the case since 1994 - from 1998, only the winners were guaranteed qualifiers, one or two runners-up would go through, the rest via play-offs.
