I disagree here.

The team lacks confidence and application. Ronaldo has both in buckets.

If he was willing to be a 40-50 minute player - he would be tops.

He went home at half time last weekend after being subbed.  The man is toxic.

Nah by the rules it's a goal.

If it went straight in off Dalot it would've been ruled out. But it's an own goal.

If the ball hits the hand or arm of an attacking player in the build up to the goal its been disallowed in the past 2 seasons. That example would fit perfectly with those that have been disallowed in recent years. By that law, unless it's noticeably different this, it shouldnt have been allowed.

Nah man, it's the scowling, sulking and whingeing at the rest of the team that is already struggling. He's a nuisance.

Nah it has to go in from an action direct from the handball e.g. the player who handballs immediately scores in the same action.

Handball before scoring

The second change is on accidental handball in the immediate build-up to a goal.

If an attacking player’s accidental handball immediately precedes another player scoring, the goal will now be awarded, when last season it was likely to have been ruled out.

Because it was an own goal - it's a goal. Had it gone in directly - likely to be ruled off.

When I were a lad a handball was a handball, none of this interpretation or half a rule book to work it out

Bit like the goal Boro scored at Old Trafford? VAR will only disallow if the hand takes it in?

Or the player who handball scores.

So last season Alonso controlled the ball with his hand by accident then immediately scored. Handball. Had it come crashing off the post, hit another player and went in - it would've stood.

Wild! Thanks for posting this.

VAR makes the need for rules slightly convulated. If a players hand grazes the ball accidentally, 4 passes later it's then ruled off for handball. That's a bit annoying and shit for the game.

But also the Alonso example - is a bit shit for the game of football. This is a decent compromise.
