Captain Steak Bakes (now managing Blackpool/revising history)

I know I’m being a right pedant but that’s not a direct quote. He did imply this though and said plenty of unpleasant things about Rafa too.

Bruce did recommend Howe though apparently. So we should really be thanking him as the main reason we won the Carabao Cup.

"Howe's the bacon, did you say" wasn't a recommendation

Not wanting to sound preachy… but it kind of feels wrong laughing at the bloke now given his tragic family situation (which has led to a criminal investigation).

On this, it's truly terrible what has happened with his family. I don't think anyone would, or did, laugh about that at all. And it's not preachy, it's a useful reminder that there are real human things going on outside football.

I reacted to his OTT response to the measured comments made by Gayle about football, when he was asked about him in an interview and then some terrible memories of how he acted as a football manager for his spell here.

No matter my own dislike of how he managed us, or even why he took the job in the first place, that's all secondary to real life but I think everyone here knows that.

I really don’t understand why clubs tie themselves to these contacts where they have to pay millions to sack someone. It’s mad. Surely the manager needs the club more than the club needs the manager?

I’d have thought performance clauses where they can be sacked below a certain league position would be much more common.

Yeah, I agree with all that - and Gayle’s comments were all measured (unlike Bruce’s salty response). More saying on a personal note the timing didn’t seem right, but that’s not a criticism on anyone else. We all saw what he was like as a manager and it’s still a good thing these comments from Gayle have come to light.

A Villa fan once told me "You have no idea how it feels to be managed by Steve Bruce until you're managed by Steve Bruce." Truer words have never been spoken. Oh, how I and many others tried to warnt he West Brom fans what they were in for, they didn't listen at first, eventually they fully understood how it felt to be managed by Steve Bruce. No fanbase gets out alive.

Of all the Steve Bruceisms, the one the rattled me the most was before we played Man Utd in 2021 where he was defending his decision to go to Portugal during the international break. Because Krafth, Dubravka and maybe one or two others got called up, he decided there was no point having the lads in training as we prepared the face a team full of internationals and whose manager most certaintly didn't take the time off.

As far as the interview is concerned, Dwight Gayle was about as delicate as he could've been, it didn't come across as disrespectful at all, he just gave his honest opinion. I'd like to see if Schar, Ritchie, Fraser, Shelvey and Longstaff agree with Gayle or Bruce.

Bruce is far worse than Pardew imo, his tenure was far more depressing, from the moment he walked in he couldn't handle being in Rafas shadow and since he's left all he's taken shots at the club and kept up his 'woe is me' sob stories. The most thin skinned tub of blubber that's been shat into existence.

Jeff talks utter shit too on that

He's well liked and gives it the nice guy act but he's definitely weird when it comes to his mates.

His last season doing Soccer Saturday there was a game where they were showing after full-time and he said "the fans aren't directing this at the manager and players, it's at the board," while on screen they had "Manager Out" bedsheets and were singing you're not fit to wear the shirt. Can't remember who it was mind, might have been Everton

Just seen the interview, god what a fucking massive loser.

I guess the criticism must hit so bad as the truth hurts.

Thank god we no longer have cunts like this associated with the club

It's telling that of all the clubs he's managed, it's probably only Wigan (maybe?) who probably hold him in any form of esteem. He's protected by his mates in the media because he's one of Fergie's boys - riding off the back of a very successful team in the 90s. A bit before my time but from what I gather he was a pretty good player. Shame he's a pretty shit bloke.

He's universally disliked by Birmingham, Villa, Sunderland, West Brom, Sheff Wed & Newcastle fans. The ones that he hasn't been binned by, he's fucked off at the first opportunity of something 'better'. It won't be long before Blackpool fans can't stand the bloke either.

Complete and utter cunt of a bloke and I can't even call myself a Newcastle fan when he was manager. I watched about 3 games after chucking a season ticket that I had for 17 years prior.  Used to be absolutely delighted when we lost.

Thank fuck Gayle missed that chance too, btw. The thought of this cunt leading us out at (albeit an empty) Wembley is enough to make your skin crawl.

I suppose one thing we can be grateful for is the fact he unravelled all of Benitez's work and made us shit enough to be bought for what seems a relative pittance in hindsight. Fair play to Gayle for respectfully calling him out. I can't wait for a talk in with Paul Dummett in 2035 to hear what it was really like in those dark days.

Agbhonlahor should be sterilised.

Don’t bite to this guy, he’s absolutely nailed the ‘being thick but clever enough to provoke reaction with controversial soundbites’ act.

In fact just don’t listen to talksport at all.

This whole notion that Steve Bruce deserves huge respect because he’s old and has been in football a long time. Gayle was asked the question and gave a tactful answer, I’m sure he could have gone a lot further.

Agbonlahor is an absolute fruit cake as well. Cannot stand the bloke, probably one of the thickest people in football, who bizarrely, gets to share his views!

We all know people with lots of experience who are useless and don’t do anything. Some of us might even be one

Difference is we don’t get defended for being shit and made a millionaire when we get sacked.
