Far too early to say they’ll stay up.

This time last year Ipswich looked in a good position to stay up, and Luton the year before. They were both very well in it until they weren’t and fell away sharply.

Agree it’s too early to say for certain, but I’m not seeing your point about Luton and Ipswich.

Luton after 4 games had 0 points

Ipswich after 4 games had 2 points

I think it took both sides around 12 games to get to the 7 point mark.

5 of their starting 11 yesterday will be off to Afcon … it never made sense why they brought so many African players with that tournament this season

Not all of them will be away for the full tournament mind. Some will be back fairly quick.

Can’t see Mozambique doing well at the AFCON for example.

Been pointed out that there’s value to be had in that market this summer because of the tournament. Makes sense given the risk you mention.

We might have gone a bit over the top like.

Not from Newcastle so not sure I can have an opinion on this but...

Don't get the obsession with these. Yes they're our local rivals but I couldn't give a fuck about them. Why do we sing about THEM when WE'RE playing? Why give them attention at all.

Was thinking about the Tonali chant and how it has Scumderland in there. Why mention them?

As I say, not sure valid as I'm not from the area. In terms of hatred I loathe Liverpool the most, and I guess any other club who are at our level like manure in the 90s. Would've been daft to have had a big rivalry with Arsenal ten years ago but now we're both fighting at the top it seems legit. Still wouldn't reference them in songs tho.

all clubs in the in the prem have songs about their rivals, if you ever go up there you'll see how strong the hatred is

Your first sentence is correct and I'll ask the question about your age also.

No but Ivory Coast , Morocco and Senegal might , 4 players from a starting 11 through Christmas and early part of January is a lot to lose

7pts from 12 is a great return, regardless of who you are and who you've played.

They've had a really good start and got a solid base to build on, and another very winnable home game next week. Villa havent got started yet, and it's a fixture they really won't want, especially away.

Have said for a while they'll stay up comfortably and based on the first few games stand by it, obviously things can change, when West Ham change manager they might get a bounce, AFCON etc, but think these will have enough.

Yeah, there’s an actual battle for survival this year.

I said all summer that the three new sides this season will put up much more of a fight than the newly promoted teams have from the last 2 years.

Certainly making a good fist of it so far. Best a newly promoted team has done was third; us and Forest both a long time ago. We had a fairly established side/way of playing and Forest had just been relegated and bounced back in style. Beyond that, it is pretty grim reading. Most recent solid first season was Leeds five years ago who finished 9th.

You had 5 points from 3 games in 96/97 and went down

4 points from 3 games in 90/91 and went down

5 points from 4 games in 02/03 and went down with record low points

5 points from 3 games in 17/18 and went down

7 points from 4 games in 86/87 and went down

we took 3 points from 3 games in 96/97 and finished 2nd, 1 point from 3 games in 93/94 and finished 3rd, 4points from 5 games in 02/03 and finished 3rd - so it works both ways

Not saying/caring if you do or don't but for a club that's been relegated as much as yours no way would I be so sure of myself especially given the fixtures thus far and your record for getting carried away coming back to bite you

Good research there tbf.

I’m not sure of myself at all mind, just making the comparison between our first 4 games and Ipswich’s & Luton’s, which is what the original post referred to.

The Tonali song didn't mention Sunderland until Bruno sang it during the league cup celebration, but has since been adopted by our fans.

That being said it is slightly embarrasing how some on here go on and on and on about them without realizing they are just as bad as the people on rtg they are trying to mock.

Fair enough, give yourself more of chance than they did for sure, was more at my end thinking I'd not be confident of staying up at this point.  Nobody really seems a write off at this point which is blessing and a curse, if Leeds and Burnley had no points and had looked out of their depth and you had the same points, maybe.
