Whilst them doing well is a stain on the pants of life, I do think having both clubs battling it out in the Prem is good for the region.

It might bruise ego's on either side of the fence, but it helps to rebuild the perception of how passionate the North East is about the game and might turn heads of prospective players and sponsors in the future.

It's a tough one for me as I have a mackem brother in law (who is a top man) and a couple of work acquaintances who I really like that are Sunderland. The problem is I hate that fan base with a passion and absolutely detest derby week/day. I understand the 'good for the region' crack but I'd much rather they just disappeared down a massive hole. Never to be seen again.

I'm not really on board the "just getting lucky" train, but that said... The defending for their winner yesterday was dog shit. Chelsea all but stop playing because they think they've won a foul, two defenders on Brobbey do an alright job not letting him shoot but the Chelsea midfield totally fails to pick up the runner. I wonder if teams not taking them seriously is playing a role. Or maybe Chelsea are just shite.

They'll never keep this pace up long term but realistically they now only need another 20/21 points to survive with 3 quarters of the season left to play.

The lad in midfield they signed from USG won’t be there long, only 20 and looks like a young Kante. Think he was in the Belgian League Team of the Year and has been nominated for African young player of the year.

Cant knock their recruitment and no reason they can’t finish mid table if they stay clear of injuries.

Saw a post yesterday from a mackem I follow with a picture of the table with them in second and the caption ‘FTM’. Tragic really.

It's what gives them meaning so can't knock it really.

I don't have any football shirts.

I had a cotton long sleeve old school NUFC one for my thirtieth birthday that my 23 year old son now wears.

they have been excellent this season. cracking start. i think they will eventually slip to mid table once AFCON starts and they lose their players.

this season derby will be fiesty.

we have been very poor in the league in contrast to them.

We have but have played Arsenal and Liverpool as well as competing in Champions League mind as well as the disruption with Isak etc, with better finishing would have done Villa as well. Feel like we are close to hitting from at right time.

Saying that Sunderland have done much better than I thought they would but will judge when there form dips and their manager and players need to figure out different approaches which will happen.

So, of those:

Blondy & Abdullahi don’t have a senior league appearance, they’re 4th/5th choice in their positions.

Masuaku isn’t very good at defending. Dropped after Man U away.

Diarra is injured till AFCON starts.

Adingra rarely plays many minutes.

Traore is a rotational winger who has had a poor game v Wolves and an okay game v Chelsea.

That leaves Sadiki, Talbi & Reinildo who we will definitely miss, but Reinildo won’t be gone too long because Mozambique won’t get far in the competition.

Oh, and someone asked on here that these players wouldn’t be there by the time the derby comes around, but I’ve seen it’s after game week 16 where most prem players leave for the competition, so that’s just after the derby I think.

I think the players need to leave their clubs at least 2 weeks before the AFCON starts. That being the case, the mackem ones would miss the derby?
