Dan Ashworth (now working for The FA)

Recommended Posts

Amorim looks to be a very talented manager.

I just think his approach is not well suited to a number of key players they have.

And so they are going to have to revamp the team significantly.

Call me mental but I think with the right remit as a transitional team (something that tbf very few managers and DoFs would agree to) Southgate and Ashworth probably would have sorted Man United out in a walk-before-you-run way - getting them into a position to push on. It's exactly what they did with England, which had a lot of the same problems you see at Man United: lack of team spirit and unity, players perceived as unlikeable primadonnas, backroom communication, youth setup, infrastructure issues.

And very specifically to a very specific formation.

Ashworth had a good point that your transfer policy cannot be shackled to the ideas of one very particular manager.

What happens when Amorim fails and the new amazing talented guy comes in who wants to play 433?

I get that they felt they needed to act but I found it a bit risky to bring Amorim in at the start of this run. A coach with a very specific approach given a Frankenstein squad and a game every 3/4 days.

Like Potter at Chelsea it’s just becomes a reaction of going from game to game and makes it difficult to implement your style, esp if the losses start to stack up.

He’ll get time as he should but a rocky start can be hard to shake especially when he came in with such hype.

Yeah, seems an over reactionary rash decision.

Ruud was looking like he would have been able to stabilise things until the summer.

Tbf that sums up the case for multiple managers Man U have gone through since Fergie left.

It's always the manager to blame. Can't get the best out of the players.

In football, it's never the players fault. It sucks. 😅

Dan has certainly done a good job in messing up two clubs' planning, whilst coming across as a bit of a fool at best with the e-mails.

Time for a job at Halfords so he can waffle on about wheels and spokes to his heart's content instead of prancing around football clubs like a clown.

On a different note, I'm still not convinced many DOFs do anything much except blame managers and plead for time due to it all being a long term project. As cushy a job as a fourth choice goalkeeper.

Time for a job in a gardening store surely? 😆

Based on the Forest game a couple days ago, felt like Man U played the same way the entire game whether they were winning or losing. You could say it was admirable but I do think you need to change things up when the score changes in the Premier League.

Amorim has said that his main focus is getting everyone up to speed with his system. He's rotating like crazy and even has the youth teams playing the same formation.

He said we'd try and pick up as many wins as possible but he needs everyone as fit as possible and used to the system before we can start to build. He's said from the start we'd still be shit for a while.
