Shows how poor our squad building has been. We have 4 other keepers and none are good enough to replace Pope, who also hasn’t been great this season.

We clearly want to upgrade on Pope but haven't had the financial wiggle room to do so. Then being forced into getting Vlachodimos to avoid a points ban ended any hopes of us upgrading even on Dubravka.

As always, the rules are at the heart of the failure.

Even the other keeper we were heavily linked with was worse than Dubravka as well

They are, but the club certainly aren’t blameless. We seen what a disaster it was without Pope last season and have done nothing to address it.

Not sure exactly what Vlak can/can't do but I definitely know what Dubravka can/can't do and I'm 100% in on the Greek, it's got to be him on Saturday

The fact that Dubravka’s been the keeper on the bench all season tells you it’s 100% going to be him.

Out for 3-4 weeks apparently

I could basically copy and paste my post in the Wilson thread here. We watched Dubravka cost us a mountain of points last season and yet we chose not to upgrade our second choice slot despite bringing in two senior keepers. We deserve all we get when that jug eared clown is throwing them in over the next few weeks.

You can’t honestly believe we don’t have the funds to upgrade on Martin Dubravka.

That's not the point. We weren't going to get another keeper after Vlachodimos came in, were we?

We got Ruddy in and chose to retain Gillespie. Why not use the wages there to get in an experienced keeper on a free/nominal who is an upgrade on Dubravka?

An upgrade on Dubravka for £15k a week? Best of luck with that.

Gillespie is a training keeper and is probably on something like £10k a week

Okay fellas, put those wages towards one better keeper. You know what I mean. We've got 5 registered and 4 of them are absolutely chod. We'd be miles better off having not bothered with those two and just got one in better than Dubravka, which based on his performances last season cannot be that difficult.

You're trying to be funny but he's fucking crap, I refuse to believe there's not a bunch of keepers out there for that ballpark who would be even marginally better.

But you’re saying if we’d just sacked Gillespie off that would have sorted our keeper problems.

Any reasonable/good PL-level back up keeper will be on a minimum of 30k a week, and if you were able to get them for free/minimal amount, it would even more.

Dubravka might have gone significantly downhill (we’re about to find out again it seems…) but the notion that virtually anyone is better is far-fetched to say the least.

Gillespie literally doesn't count.

Ruddy replaced Karius; it's perfectly fine to have a competent third choice goalkeeper.

We tried to shift Dubravka but couldn't because he's rubbish, so we were stuck with him. Then we were forced to sign Vlachodimos to avoid a points ban because of anti-competitive rules. Ergo, no proper new goalkeeper.

The window was crap but not everything has to be the fault of whichever person at the club you fancy slagging off from one day to the next.

Blimey, that's a straw man so big you could burn Edward Woodward in it.

Short version - we could have upgraded on Dubravka. We chose not to, despite loads of evidence he's way past it and was costing us goals and points almost weekly.

And now, we will likely pay the price for that unless our defence miraculously goes back to the miserly mode of a few years ago when we barely conceded a shot.
