Well, strange comments indeed!

 

Firstly, their "Chelski" Abramovich era is over, they are unlikely ever to achieve anything like that level of success ever again. 

 

Secondly, living in London !!! The ONLY true shithole in the UK.

Their turnover is double ours - I think it is quite likely that they’ll have success again.

 

London is shit - if you’re poor.  Last I checked most Chelsea players are not in the lower strata of the socio-economic ladder.  Most footballers - particularly those from overseas - are far more likely to choose to live in London than Newcastle.  I would if I was them - and I’m from Newcastle.

I was going to say, the area Chelsea is in is really nice if not expensive (not a problem for footballers obviously)

Isn’t the London thing outdated from a time when footballers went out on the town and into nightclubs. Most players are teetotal and committed to their fitness and health nowadays, where London has no advantage whatsoever. Unless he’s just really into theatre?

Airports still an advantage I’d imagine. That and a ever so slightly warmer climate.

Chelsea are of course a decent proposition for any player. They can pay big wages and win trophies on a regular basis.

 

The annoyance is that their PSR headroom, which is already miles above the likes of Newcastle due to pre-PSR investment by a Russian oligarch, is artificially inflated by the sale of hotels and women's football teams to sister companies.

Nkunku was a PSG reject before Leipzig where he got Bundesliga player of the season. So he's already resurrected his career once. I see potential value there, especially with the crazy valuations we keep hearing for other players. He's versatile and that's something we could certainly do with.

 

All depends on whether Eddie likes him though.

Disagree, Londons better than any place in the UK if you’re poor.
 

So many free attractions (British museum, science museum, Natural history museum ,Tate modern /Tate Britain, The Welcome Collection, and public spaces like the National theatre, The Southbank centre and British Library reading rooms) so you might not have much in the bank but you don’t need to be bored.

 

Countryside and seaside within 60-90 minutes depending where in London you are.

 

Most London boroughs give those on low incomes free/low fee gym and swim membership at their leisure centres.

 

Also it has more opportunities for education, training and job opportunities to pull yourself up.

Maybe true last year.  Their best players will get flogged next season like everyone else.

No.  
 

London is a rich persons playground and they get to be fairly anonymous.  Lots of places for wives to shop and usually some cultural enclaves to get food and bits from too.  Chelsea in particular is th least parasocial of all the bigger clubs. People will mind their business around them.

I grew up relatively poor in London. It’s a good place to be poor tbh. I started my career with a totally unpaid internship and got the bus to it in the big city. Turned that into a half decent job. Having a roof over my head in London made it possible to eventually get a pretty good career going for myself.

The premise of changing lifestyles of footballers changing the value they place on bright lights/big city isnt wrong. Yes if Joao Pedro's top criteria for living location is shopping then i guess thats him looking to move near a Westfield. World class restaurants too, thats another big plus.

Not just shopping though - airports that can fly anywhere in the world, urn… flat lager and you know other things.
