"Isak is a pure rat" banners up outside the training ground 😑

The irony is that I would actually associate 'pure rat' type language more common with the destination he is quite heavily linked to [emoji38]

Folk convincing themselves he deliberately downed tools is some sort of coping mechanism I think.

In what way? Surely the opposite is true, if he's literally in the process of downing tools right now

I'm not sure why it would be "cope" to think he wasn't actually injured and was in fact just putting in half arsed performances towards the end of the season, your logic makes absolutely no sense.

Anyone else already completely sick of this saga? Probably got another 4 weeks of it too.

Doesn't help when we're doing fuck all on the incoming side either.

Complete shambles of a window. Could set us back years.

I'd say just get rid, but I'd love to avoid selling him to Liverpool at all costs.

This is the problem really. If it was abroad I’d be all in the selling camp. As it is I think he has to stay for another season.

Yup, absolutely it's just a ridiculous situation to be in. Id be more understanding if Liverpool or anyone else were actually pushing but at the moment they are using paid influencers to snipe from the sideline.

It's just pathetic all around tbh.

I know he's downed tools right now, I've said that.

But he's had groin and thigh problems for us since he walked through the door and with Wilson not always being available to replace him with, there's clearly been many a game where he's not played at full speed and had to be kept wrapped in cotton wool. That wasn't him downing tools like some are levelling at him now.

For a manager that won’t play someone if they’re unable to enact his tactical instructions and put in the effort, are we really saying Howe knew Isak was not putting in the effort (as they have the live data in game and can track output across all previous games) and kept playing him? Come on.

You'd think if this happens, Liverpool will need to make their formal offer within the next couple of days at or at least near our valuation. If it gets to a week before the season starts, forget it. We're hardly going to pick up the phone and ask them to bid.

The whole saga has been an embarrassment really, and not how you would expect major transfers to be conducted.

That still isn't "cope", if anything cope is saying "ahhhh nah he's a good lad, wouldn't down tools, no way" when clearly he is capable of that, as we've now discovered.

If he was agitating for a move and wanting to impress suitors even more. I don’t understand what he would have to gain by deliberately not trying and playing shite for a couple of months at the start and the end of the season?  I understand why he is doing it now in the off season. Even if it is a dickhead move.

I think it is more the case that his style is a bit languid, he generally has stamina issues and he has often been playing through injuries and looking off it/not fully fit for spells, ever since he signed. It’s nothing new.

I’m not an N-O body language expert. But I didn’t notice much difference with his attitude or how he was generally. He has always been a bit cold and aloof. Hence being monikered the ‘Ice Man/Ice Cold’

I know plenty did previously highlight him not really celebrating other players goals. But I can’t say it is something I noticed.

It's a cope. People are trying to convince themselves we're selling a player who down tools in matches.

I'm talking about his performances last season. I've admitted he's downed tools now. What are you on about?

Hate to break it, but if we're selling him it literally IS because he has downed tools.

It's more of a cope to pretend we're selling him because he's always injured.

Yes, he's downed tools now. Like I've said numerous times.

If he's capable of downing tools now, what makes him incapable of downing tools in the last few games? Even if it was just to avoid injury ahead of a possible move.

That's not "cope", it's applying a gained-perspective now that we've learnt that he has that in him.

I've seen the phrase "Downed Tools" so much in the last few pages, it feels like its lost all meaning

It does make me wonder where the etymology of that phrase has come from, has some worker in Ancient Egypt just put down his chisel and walked off into the desert never to be seen again?
