From the clubs perspective, they may feel that he will leave next summer anyway, so why pay him another £100k a week when he’s already paid well and will want his “elite club move” soon.

But if there is any real belief that Alex would like to stay long term, then of course he deserves his pay rise. £300k is fucking stupid though.

£300k is market rate, the scouse are reportedy paying Ekitike £270k, Isak is worth way more than the frenchie.

I guess his argument would be he can get that elsewhere without any trouble at all.

Sooner than later we will need to have our top wages being around that figure, to be attractive to top targets.

But if we literally can’t afford to? Then what? I’m sure if there was no issues with PSR etc, we’d already be offering those kind of wages.

It’s “market rate” in a market that is completely fucked and skewed in the direction of the clubs that PSR doesn’t affect. There are literally 7-8 teams in world football that can pay those types of wages.

Yeah and he can play for any of those clubs.

Why would Isak care about the market being fucked if players worst than him are paid that much?

We should give him a contract that gives him £250k p/week for the next 12 months & also a release clause of £150m for next summer only. If he isn't sold next summer then his wage increases to £300k p/week for the remainder of his contract & the release clause drops off.

I think that's what we'll do. Offer him a big pay rise with a release clause of £150m. He still might not take it, but we will then just sell him next summer regardless.

He's good enough to get 300k from those 7-8 monster clubs, that's the problem.

With the current restrictions, we have to be a selling club. Whether that’s Isak, Tino or someone else. It’s the only sure way for us to reinvest and grow. It’s the shitty truth.

But that's not us. A rise rumoured to be 108% is fkn ludicrous. I'd expect 35 goals minimum from him and play every fkn week. If we're comparing him to Haaland like.

If he's smart he realises it's a no-brainer for him. He can double his money for 12 months and leave next summer if he wants to. We aren't letting him leave this season regardless, so what's not to like? The alternative is to sit in the huff for 12 months on the same wage as he is currently on.

Market value is what his peers are paid, closest comparison is probably Haaland. How much is Haaland on?

500k per week *basic*.

Apparently over 800k per week with bonuses.

Yeah so no issue, he goes elsewhere and gets it.

This is what people are saying, if we don't offer him what's he's worth he will be off.

I would be absolutely astounded if PIF couldn't find a "workaround" regarding Isak's wages, whatever may show on the accounts

It's not so much about the couldn't and more about the wouldn't imo.

We seem adamant about not doing anything underhand. There are clearly lots of work arounds Chelsea style.

They are going to have to do something unless they really want to trade their way to the top. I would imagine that's not easy, there are only so many times you can sell your best players and still come out stronger than ever. Just look at Brighton.

As hard as that would be I think I'd quickly make my peace with it.

Surprised they don't just hand the guy a card that accesses a bank account that never runs dry ;D

How many PL games have we won when he’s not played since arriving? Or even scored in?

Not to say he isn't brilliant, but that's probably more to do with the cliff-face like drop off to last season's alternatives.

I don’t particularly believe Alex does care, knowing how much he loves it here… his agents will care though.

I know he can play for any of those clubs, but my point is that he most likely will anyway next summer, so why more than double his wages now? 🤷‍♂️ Just to appease his agent for a year?

I'm fairly sure this is one of the issues Man City are in bother for with Roberto Mancini.

It seems fairly straightforward on paper. You offer Isak a ridiculous amount of money for his image rights in the MENA region and he does a few campaigns to justify it. I sense the bastions of morality that are the other top six clubs would quickly flag that though (apart from Man City perhaps).

It's too complicated a situation to ever know what's truly going on. To that end, the transfer window represents respite for us as supporters because up until that point his future remains unclear.

And 6 of the 8 are in the shark tank that is the PL.

No one cares about his agent, but it would give us a happy Isak for a year. Presumably it would be an extended contract, so unless a club coughs up £150m he would be here for the rest of it.
