You may be right, but I wonder what raising his contract would do in terms of clauses in other players contracts and the likelihood of a large portion of them rising thus taking us potentially dangerously close the imposed limit?

Perhaps, not sure on that one tbf :)

We literally have the coutinho case study. Buy well now with 200 / 250 m and it will make us a stronger squad.

it's a kick in the stones, but it's an opportunity howe will want.

No we don't. That means fuck all.

We aren't getting that much money, the money what we get is much worst and we will struggle to spend it well.

We are hamstrung by PSR and that's IF our owners are as invested as what they let on which in itself is questionable.

You sound delusional, mate.   This was always the likely outcome… If we can still get 120ish M for him, I would snap at it.

£120m  we’ll have to pay around £100m for his replacement

We get the maximum we possibly can for him or let him sit in the reserves until he pulls himself together. Fuck the money and fuck the glass ceiling hustle. Make a point.

this is why fans dont own successful football clubs - it's roy of the rovers stufff

They are, but his fee would be reamortised, which would free up c.£100k per werk

Yeah I explained that a couple.of days ago. Ive worked it anck of a fag packet style to about 75k. Even 100k would be short of doubling his pay.

We’ve lost a ton of leverage if he publicly is trying to get out.   I hope we get even 120m at this point.   Would Rodrygo come here?

He can want out all he wants the Saudis won’t sell cheap

If we had it done this at the right time, palindrome would be his replacement… At 70M.  Who would we even get at this point?

Who can pay that though? everyone has got their strikers sorted and the rest can't afford it.

Liverpool when they sell Nunez & Diaz. It’s been said numerous times. They’ll get over £150m for the both of them

We have played this really poorly.

Not only didn't give him a new contract, apparently promised we would talk to him about it but didn't until way too late. Knew he could be unsettled but didn't deal with him or the situation until late in the window.

This is shit. I wanted Isak to be a true Newcastle legend/icon but I also understand he can get 150k more per week elsewhere. That's a massive amount. All of us would likely try to get that too. It's up to the club to know that and to make him happy.

But we have to do everything in our power to avoid selling him to a direct rival. It would be devastating on multiple levels to do that. 120m from Barcelona or whoever is better than 150m from Liverpool.

This whole thing fucking sucks.

I'm gonna say this! Yeah Isak as a player is irreplacable, i think we all know that and it goes without saying. Having said that, we can improve our first team and squad in many ways without having the same calibre of striker and still be very strong over a whole season.

My biggest worry about it isn't Isak leaving, it's the mess in the background that i don't have much faith in when it comes to getting quality players in, especially with reasonable speed. We can compensate for Isak leaving, at least to quite a big degree. But we need to get it right, and do it fast, (if he's leaving now that is)

He’s on about £120k apparently - we’d save over £5m pa in amortised fee on the books, so roughly £100k/pw before we even began any further offer

We can't unfortunately, we can't catch up so we never have such a strong position to negotiate from.

Same way Real dusted Liverpool

Learn that we need to be more successful and have more money? We know

It's more the way they've used agents and the press to essentially tap our player up 'legally'.

I'm sure we tried similar with Guehi but we barely budged Palace - in fact Parish controlled the narrative there. I get part of this might be down to Isak turning out to be a massive bell end.

No, he'd go to Liverpool or Chelsea for a 300k wage packet.

You're missing the point. Whether it's 120 or 160m, it gives Howe circa 200m minimum to play with this summer. They key thing now is certainty asap - get rid or get him committed. Ideally by close of play tomorrow
