This guy was a club legend, well, not anymore. His celebration after scoring in the final is iconic. We were comparing him to Shearer, some even thought he'd be better, and now he's being compared to Owen? It's crazy. The power of having your head turned when someone is in your ear saying XYZ. I’ll happily argue back against things like players can make their own mind, because very often their careers are dictated by their agent. Isak ambition is likely to win the biggest trophies, be in contention for world awards, and joining us he believed he could get to that with his agent paying a part. Then as the seasons went on, his agent in his ear saying “Not moving at pace this, your chances are reducing”, coupled with this summer as season ended “Liverpool want you, I’d seriously consider it if you want to win the big stuff. If so, we need to do this…” and that’s it. Club blindsided, Isak led away and we don’t have the people here to pull him back, only Howe who rightly is busy sorting out the team and not selling the ‘project’. Kid Icarus
Without knowing the facts running up to him downing tools, the club is still 100% to blame for how they've placated him and Liverpool and basically facilitated it derailing our summer. None of it suggests that the club knows what it's doing and the summer would have been a success without the Isak situation.

It feels like a concerted effort to look down on Newcastle United in a sniggering, scornful way. I veer from finding it frustrating to somewhat pathetic that they feel the need to deride us, looking down upon on from their already lofty positions. The facts feel obvious to me, you cast a glance over other recent and even not so recent transfers, and it becomes evidently clear that asking for £150m for Isak is quite sensible and reasonable comparatively. 142,000,000 they sold Coutinho for in 2018. Isak should be insulted.

It feels like the club has nobody at the wheel. The (entirely justified) disgust at Isak’s behavior has now overshadowed the club’s piss poor management of this situation. In what world did you expect to publicly tell everyone that this player was worth the highest transfer valuation in Premier League history but also think you could get away with not paying him top wages? A core group of players in this squad are elite and would improve any team in the world - is it really so shocking that they want to be in a place where they can compete for titles and silverware? The actions of the club do not match the top players’ ambition. That is destabilizing. regardless of how this Isak saga ends there is going to have to be a sea change in how the club operates in order to keep this kind of thing from happening again. Whether that’s truly possible under current PSR rules I have no idea.
Jimburst
I'm happy we're in a strong situation with his contract, and he's made a mistake trying to force a move from a weak position. I'd be very happy for us to use our strong position to make him stay and get the most money for him, and 100% the club comes first. I'm just surprised at everyone calling the lad a cunt cos he wants to go to Liverpool. Think it's quite understandable for him to go there considering their position and ours. If I was a swedish lad I'd be off to Liverpool in a second. They've bought amazingly from a position of strength and we look like we're going to be mid-table at best. Fair enough but a contract has to work both ways to protect the player and the club. Wanting to change it or tear it up with 3 years still to go, you have to expect you may be told GTF ultimately I hope the club do, even if Isak downs tools which he won’t (he hasn’t yet and is being managed) Set an example, because if we don’t then next year it’ll be someone else, stamping their feet or another cartel club circling and using their media mouthpieces to beat us down so that we give up the goods for cheap. The ideal situation with transfers is player wants to leave, club wants a fee and both get what they want, but when those two things don't marry all bets are off in terms of what usually happens. Jesse Pinkman
It not more the way he has acted rather than his desire to go to Liverpool? He’s basically completely derailed a key window which has been in the works for years (albeit the club needs to take a significant amount of blame as well)

And God help you if Sunlun are above us in the league at that point. All the indications are that we are currently acting weak as piss in this situation, and are being played like a fiddle. Isak should have been told weeks ago he is going nowhere and that would have been the end of it. The fact that he hasn't though is the most glaring clue that we are going to be letting him go, and I bet it's closer to £100m than the £150m. We are currently being cuckolded beyond belief. Played like a fiddle on incoming transfers is totally correct. That's what happens when you back the manager, get rid of a sporting director before the window even starts and then allow two totally unqualified scouts to deal with incoming transfers. You're right, but it's the way he's handled it that's rubbed people up the wrong way. You can get a move without going on strike - the buying club just have to make a suitable offer. He's fucked us over by trying to drive down his valuation. I don't agree with the assesment that he's derailed our transfer activity and pre season preparation though, the club should still have been able to manage the transfer window while also managing a single disgruntled player. It's not about him going to Liverpool though. That's totally understandable. He's not some local lad with lifelong ties. It's the way he's gone about it man. Waiting until his team mates (very close friends it's been said) and manager are up in a plane before we hear he wants to explore his options. Pissing off so the manager doesn't know where he is and finds out through the media. I'll never think that's acceptable like. Do things the proper way and we'd accept him bettering himself. The underhand way he and Liverpool have acted is low. Even for an entitled, prima donna footballer. Edited August 8, 2025 by KennyUtd
