I can't believe people are suggesting we cave in and sell Isak to Liverpool. Firstly it would show that we had given in to player pressure which going forward would send a disastrous precedent. Tonali, Hall, Tino, Bruno all our better players would know that they could wiggle their way out If they got an interesting offer.

 

Secondly we would be much weaker without Isak and signing Wissa is not going to alleviate that. Dropping out of the champions league positions is likely to mean all of the above is much more likely.

 

Just tell him he's not leaving until next summer. Simple. Gives us a year to line up someone to replace him. Should be enough time even for us.

I can't believe so many people want his toxic presence back with the squad and playing for us again.

Hugely disagree. I would much rather Isak stayed with us and we worked on a solution. Can’t believe others have the opposite opinion, to be honest. Footballers are adults doing a job. They can work it out amongst themselves should they get the chance to.

The players realistically won’t care much going into September if we have him back , there’s a reason there’s no direct quotes from him , so he can scurry back if he doesn’t go

I am not uniquely placed in my job as being clearly the very best at doing it though. If I perform to my capabilities I don’t earn my colleagues huge amounts of money in bonuses

Its not having him back with the squad, let him spend his time kicking a ball at a wall by himself, its sending the message that being a prick wont get you what you want, otherwise we are just rewarding this player and saying its acceptable for others to do in the future, and lets clubs know they can unsettle our players successful. This is not some unprecedented thing though. If we can’t find a good replacement, then we certainly shouldn’t sell. Isak’s purported behavior may well change in the next three weeks once he realizes that he painted himself into a corner. He didn’t murder anyone’s children as far as we know. And we don’t fully know that the bridges have been totally burnt. So work relationships can be repaired to some extent if needs be. He didn’t seem to be a problem for 2+ years.

I imagine if you were that highly placed and in a team environment then your performance would only be possible because of your colleagues’ and it’s not just a one-way street. Football isn’t a game for individuals. Should Isak be better remunerated? Based on his performances, yes. Based on his attitude, no. Based on his team’s finances, no. That isn’t a problem, he can want to leave and he can make efforts to leave. What he can’t do is say he’ll never play for the club again and do everything possible to damage his club and employer.

 

In any other work environment outside sports he’d be destroyed for this behaviour, and his reputation would leave him in tatters. The only thing keeping him afloat here is the fact he’s an amazing player and even then, everyone can see now that he’s on the wrong side of this
