I can't be arsed quoting all the hard nosed businessmen with Masters degrees in football management BUT Eddie wanted him gone, lads

I'm sure this is true but it'll also be a financial decision from the club. I'm sure they were all aligned in this case.

Yes, but those clubs were not in our PSR position.

Its much harder to play hardball when we cannot pay anything like the same wages at Liverpool and are not allowed to put extra money in to buy players (e.g., a striker to play when Isak is on strike) were we to sacrifice any money by not selling the wantaway player.

The system is set up to fuck us and clubs like us.

Once again, were we in a massive hole for next summer if we planned to spend around 35-50 million on a Wilson replacement anyway? I'm fairly confident that the summer of 2026 would have been D-Day for us, which would theoretically have given us next summer to sell Isak.

You think Levy let Kane think he would be sold for anything less than his asking price at any point? He said he would only sell at £150m to City and he meant it. Kane missed a week of training.

He said he wanted £100m the next year (or the year after) - 1 year left on the contract. He got it.

You guys ever hear the term ‘duppy know who fi frighten’? People wont admit but that’s a major part of it.

Sorry didn’t explain the term. It means a ghost knows exactly who to scare. Bullies know who they can intimidate and who they can’t. Strong people and institutions don’t get bullied - people rarely try because they know they won’t suceeed.

‘He can do that to them over there because he knows they are weak.  He wouldn’t try that over here, he knows better’.

Look at how disjointed the club is. Look how PIF are desperate to pay big fees for Liverpool flops. NUFC isn’t life or death for them. Let’s push them. I reckon they fold.

I agree, the deciding factor in the story here is Isak throwing a hissy fit.

If isak remained professional we wouldn't have sold him this summer.

Why do people keep asking what we should have done when there are so many examples of how it's done that have been put forward? Genuinely don't get it.

There are plenty of ways it could have been done, the point is they all carry significant risks or negatives for the club.

You ever hear the term that comparing the negotiation strength of Spurs in 2023 to Newcastle in 2025 is more nuanced than ah fuck it never mind. Pissing into the wind. As you were.

They sold a 30 year old with 1 year left on his contract. They had just finished 8th in the league.  No CL football. A player everyone knew wanted to leave. An unhappy fanbase. 1 buyer in the market.

The only leverage they had was the negotiation reputation and acumen of Daniel Levy [emoji38]

What would you have done?

Oh, I don’t know… maybe not meekly surrender on deadline day for £20m under value without a replacement lined up? Maybe try to reintegrate him; and if that didn’t work, let him sit until January and smoke out better/other offers?

Or, if we were feeling even slightly spiteful, send him anywhere but to the club that spent the entire summer mugging us off?

But hey, end of the day, the snake and the scavengers both got exactly what they wanted. No point in sugar-coating it imo.

And what we doing doesn't carry any?

Course it does, I've said it does. We were in a lose-lose situation and we just had to make the best of whatever option we thought held most value for us.

That's true, I just don't understand why it keeps getting asked. To my mind what we've done is more abnormal than if we'd held firm.

And how do we know that?

They do the same thing though.

PSR profit booked on one year but that is used to reduce losses over 3 years.

SCR takes profit over three years to balance out increase revenue over the se period.

In both cases you get a 3 year benefit from the sale

They both do indeed factor over three years but squad ratio costs are based on calendar years not accounting periods.

Bullshit, they had revenue that allowed them to adopt that position of strength.  I don't doubt that no sporting director and our usual way of making decisions has left us a little soft but it's daft to compare the hands of the two clubs.

Fee's not surprising to me, clubs always say they want more than they'd be willing to settle for. Obviously the way he acted has weakened our position a bit, as have the crowd singing that he's a cunt for ages - I mean it's clear bridges were burnt.

End of the day it's probably the third largest transfer in history, the largest not by PSG. Isak's a great player: great striker of the ball, good movement, fast, great touch and passer. But he's not a generational talent; he doesn't like the physical side, you can't play it up to him direct and expect him to put an effort in to challenge a CB. He wins very little in the air, he could tend to do bugger all for large swathes of games and he's not the most durable. I don't think he's got the very best poacher instincts either, he always just wants to go to the back post.

He'll do very well at Liverpool, they'll get more players up to support him and can rotate him a bit more, we always left him a little isolated .

It's sad it's ended like this. Obviously he's ambitious and wants to get to the top but he didn't seem the type to be willing to fuck everyone over, and we've actually got a good squad now as well so it's very frustrating. Still, we got three really good seasons out of him, two CL campaigns, two cup finals and one cup win, then almost doubled our money. It will still go down as a great signing for the club, even if the way it ended is pretty unpleasant.

And as outaged as everyone is, no-one would give a fuck about Wissa's behaviour if he was to come here and start scoring.
