 That word. I’m not sure it means what you think it means.

If it’s just a description of where teams are going to finish then it’s probably Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool…and it’s not a cartel, maybe an elite?

If it’s an actual cartel of teams then either it’s the original CL ones (Arse, Liv, Man U, Chels) or the ones that didn’t want new owners to be able to spend whatever they want (add us) or the ones that wanted an ESL (add Man City).

If you’re saying we’re in the cartel in name only then it doesn’t mean anything and I’m very happy to agree we’re not

Yeah, I know what a cartel means, howeh. :lol:You're in the cartel in name only as in your membership isn't really based on any actual historical success on the field, unlike the other members: Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal. However you're in on the basis that the interests of your club and the others mentioned are mutual: restrict competition, keep the Champions League a closed shop so you can guarantee income. And the clubs work together to do so - ie a cartel.

This isn't some wild conspiracy theory, it's a matter that's on record.

I mean, we’re either in it or not. If we’re working to restrict competition - and we obviously are, we don’t want owners to spend whatever they want - then we’re not in it in name only, we’re just in it. If you think we don’t deserve to be in it because we haven’t won much then that’s a different question. I’m happy to say yes, we don’t deserve to be called a cartel club if it means you all stop doing so

Good god leffe, ridiculous pedantry.

You're in the cartel, but you're not in it through any sporting success beyond sustained CL qualification, happy now?

Well cartel gangs normally get in by being successful, in a business sense you are, but in the context of football and sporting achievements you're not, unlike the other members. Really didn't think it was anything controversial

Seems like we either get the smug spurs fan or the smug Villa fan. At least the Man Utd one commits somewhat to his bit.

I resent that. I commit whole-heartedly to the smug Spurs fan bit

Looking forward to us not drawing any of them, to instead get an away tie at Liverpool

Villa defence crumbled as soon as Konsa had to move to right back with Cash going off.

That Diego Carlos just isn't up to it. Torres had a poor game and all.

Soon they will get a taste of that december program with CL. There is potensial for them to fall apart.

Which is actually nothing to celebrate tbh, just another sign off ffp working as intended. Don't you dare go against our cartel.

I don't think many fans of any PL club wants owners to be able to spend whatever they want. You think we would get joy from our owners buying the new galacticos in one window and use that to win games? It's not like it has to be either everyone spends any amount, or there will have be a system in place that also just happens to completely protect the elite from long term competition.

There is a world (many worlds actually) where there are restrictions in place, but they system still gives outside clubs a fair chance of success over time. It really shouldn't be that hard, and it's obvious that there is no motivation for PL and certain clubs to make the system more competitive. If anything, the motivation is evindently to make it increasingly less competitive. The system that some would talk about as "we don't want owners to spend whatever.." is actually also a system that is punishing clubs like Leicester, Everton and Aston Villa for daring to have ambitions of long terms success at the cost of certain clubs.

If you support one of the "big six", I can see why you would not care about that, and rather go along with the narrative that PL are dressing it up as - they are only doing this for the fairness of the sport. I mean, why would you care about any outside club not being able to compete with you over time, or even to have such ambitions? Who cares about Everton, Leicester and Villa getting into trouble for being ambitious, while a few other clubs spend 3 times as much every window without even being close to trouble? Clearly that's the only way to stop the Saudis from spending more than every other club combined.

I mean, they absolutely are sound, but are we going to try and suggest Brummie hasn't been smug since Villa started flying?

A bit more quiet this season mind.

I see Chiesa is injured again, he's played 78 minutes since they got him in the summer. I can't believe we didn't buy him.

Freddie Cheese is more fragile than wor Callum.
