Incredible what he got out of this bunch already at such short notice. Aye. Was thinking exactly the same earlier. Can't put my finger on it, but he just has an air of quiet authority about him - in a way that, say, Scott Parker/Lampard/Gerrard just don't have. As for refs giving them decisions, we have had to put up with this since the early 90's... no change there! Now refs have a new tool to make sure... Ref really need to be made accountable - there is no excuse for saying that now. The whole point of VAR is to stop mistakes - pointless saying it after the game. Good to know they are starting as they mean to go on with gameweek 1 for Man Utd. Howard Webb is in charge of VAR in this country for goodness sake, no one should ever be surprised, not if they ever saw him referee a Man Utd game back in his day. Pokerprince2004
First 2 minutes, says PGMOL's Jonathan Moss has apologised. Michael Salisbury was on VAR - same ref who was VAR for Spurs v Brighton disgraceful performance last season. Guy needs sacking
lovejoy
Man Utd are bang average. Got away with it lots last season and grinded results out. They could easily be 10th as they could 3rd if the tables turn a bit on them. weird team.
lovejoy
But after spending £420m or whatever it is on a team that came close to trophies under the previous manager they should be having a go at the title imo.

AyeDubbleYoo
The ‘clear and obvious’ error thing has to be removed. Any decision that is clearly wrong is a clear and obvious error. So if the people watching the replay think it’s a penalty then they should be instructed to give it, I wouldn’t even bother going back to the on-field ref. None of that really explains this absolute disaster like, but the influence on the on-field decision seems to open the door for these situations. They can say “it’s understandable he didn’t give it” and avoid the decision. Edited August 14, 2023 by AyeDubbleYoo

Big Geordie
I would like to say that it's unbelievable that it wasn't given as a pen, but this kind of shite has been going on for 30 years at Old Trafford. It's nothing new.
