54
In terms of the double kick, don't the Champions League balls have sensors in them for the semi automated offsides, that detect when a ball has been hit so the technology is accurate?

Newcastle winning a cup.. against Liverpool. These aren’t things that happen. Atleti losing to real in a CL shootout because of the faintest double touch and a shit penalty sneaking in is peak Atleti. It’s peak underdog. Unbelievable
A bit embarrassed about the level of these Real celebrations here. Do they think they’s won the CL outright?

Why do you pretend you’re anything other than a Real Madrid fan boy?! There’s no shame in it. There’s no judgement here. I mean, there is. Lush Vlad
Hmmmmmm. Has to be ‘clear and obvious’ no? Or do they genuinely know that it’s been struck by his standing foot? Would be almost simultaneously if so, so basically impossible to tell? Surely the ball wouldn’t go that straight and true if a double hit?!
ponsaelius
Putting aside whether he double kicks it or not I do wonder why the double touch rule actually even exists in a pen shootout? I can understand in game because it's basically to prevent players passing to themselves and treating it like a hockey pen. Unfortunate incidents like slipping over and hitting it twice are just bad luck from enforcing this necessary law. But in a pen shootout the game is dead and remains so once a pen is taken. I really don't see the benefit from disallowing a pen that is clearly taken all in one motion. Something that would never have been enforced pre-VAR. Gottlob
Feels like football is at a low ebb at the moment, which has been especially true in Spain with Barcelona in a period of transition while mired in financial crisis. It's a shame that it has allowed Ancelotti, who previously had a dire record domestically, and the likes of Vinicius and Mbappe to fill their oversized boots. Nine
It’s not clear and obvious that his standing foot has touched it, unless they saw angles that we didn’t then it’s a massive call to make. I think the quality of the knockout matches has been higher with this format tbh. Edited 21 hours ago by Nine
