Did the commentator just confirm VAR will intervene on corners next season? Didn't realise that had been rubber stamped.

He did, that's always been my problem with VAR tbh, I think you either have to have it for everything, or not at all.

For example its ridiculous that a goal can be ruled out as there was a foul at the other end of the pitch leading to the goal, or a player was offside and deemed to be interfering thoigh never touched the ball, yet a free kick or corner is given, that is clearly wrong, we can all see it, and then a team scores from it.

If the technology is there you use it for everything. My preference would be to not use it at all, but like I say the fact a blatant free kick being wrong is ignored, despite VAR easily being able to see it, is crazy to me.

Apologies for the self-indulgent post, feel the need to vent somewhere. I've decided to take a decent break from watching football, hopefully it'll bring back a bit of enthusiasm in time for the World Cup.

I'm not just talking Newcastle here, I can count on one hand how many games I've enjoyed watching this season. The Premier League has become an excruciatingly dull watch, punctuated by officiating decision that have no regard for the spirit of the game or the fans in the stands.

Even the initial excitement for huge cup ties v City and Barcelona has given way to indifference. In the unlikely event you navigate the ballot, you'll be charged an extortionate amount of cash to be sat in amongst tedious knackers, where we can play as well as we want, only to be undone by an unfortunate ricochet onto an arm or a forehead being ahead of the last defender.

All of this before we even touch on the game being stacked by PSR and SCR.

The sport is fundamentally broken and it feels more like a chore than an escape these days. I didn't watch today and I didn't feel like I remotely missed out. The volume of games of late certainly hasn't helped, so hopefully a bit of time out might get the enthusiasm back, or not.

I'm really looking forward to the Old Firm later today, it's probably the only non Newcastle fixture I tend to go out my way to watch and today's feels like it's going to be a blockbuster.

I'd like to see a draw as it'll give Hearts a bit more breathing space but a win for either side will effectively knock the other one out of contention.

Regardless, both Glasgow sides have been honking this year and don't look capable of putting together a run, I think Hearts will hold their nerve and get over the line.
