From what I’ve seen it’s an increasingly aggressive altercation between a crowd and a car driver that could probably have been avoided if either side had calmed the fuck down

Seen them all. The one just above though is the crucial one as it was the trigger. His car was attacked for no reason and it escalated. You don’t make rational decisions when you panic.

I'm sorry like, but even if someone's hitting your car you belong in a padded cell if you proceed to accelerate your two tonne motorised death machine into masses of innocent people. There's no justification for it at all ffs. Saying you can understand it because they've panicked is absolutely insane to me.

A reminder why NCC took time to plan before announcing our parade when people were whinging thinking they weren’t going to bother doing one.

The way the crowd surround that car and scream “kill him” gives me instant flashbacks to those 2 soldiers that were dragged from their car and murdered at the funeral in Northern Ireland 

 

Not vindicating the driver at all, as he’s the one in charge of a lethal vehicle and he’s caused carnage, but the crowd played their part in escalating the situation today too

I wouldn’t say for no reason he was trying to barge his way through the crowd which will piss people off. He also seems to reverse and nearly run over a woman walking past. Which causes the guy to get angry and smashes the window

He was sat with his engine running. Then his car started to get attacked. Then it was damaged at the rear so he reversed to fend off the attacker. Then went forward clearly scared at this point tooting his horn for people to clear then his windows are put out and that panics him into accelerating and head loss.

Road rage is a scary phenomenon, some people can behave like utter depraved cunts when they’re driving

 

You’re a road cyclist aren’t you ? I’ve seen a driver threaten to go head on at high speed into a group of 50 riders who were racing on a marshalled closed road, he was determined to plough his car straight towards them and only the actions of his wife got him to back down

 

I said to him “if you continue driving in that direction along that closed road, you’ll kill multiple people” and he said “good”

True this. Re road rage. I was involved in some on the A1 a couple of weeks back, thankfully nobody got hurt but when I calmed down I was embarrassed about my actions.

 

I work in claims and have seen some crazy dash cam of accidents that have occurred due to road rage.

Theres 0% chance of me driving 100-200 yards away from an angry crown and deciding the best route is through a group of people instead of the relatively clear road ahead. (despite there being a police van behind me)

I doubt his car was attacked for no apparent reason just sitting with the engine running.

 

I mean it's pure speculation but we've all seen it before - driver drives through crowd too quickly, folk kick off, driver kicks off, people hit the car, that's where it should pretty much stop.

 

The fact he then reverses at the bloke fairly slowly is perhaps the extent of my understanding but quite rightly the bloke shits himself and goes back at him.

 

Smashing the back window in wasn't rational but done in the heat of the moment, and the dude panics - I get that.

 

What I don't get is how any amount of rationale would then make you drove into hundreds of other innocent bystanders, including women and kids. I get the debate is whether he had rationale but even so what level of panic makes you do that...

 

It's all really sad and tragic though tbh. Hopefully, no one died, but wither way there's gonna be plenty lives ruined by what should have been a joyous occasion.

 

Makes you feel even more grateful for how well ours was managed and observed.

Probably thought he’d be badly attacked or worse. Your keep point is the rationale and the likelihood he didn’t have one at that stage.

all I can think of is fight or flight. He choose flight and was very reckless in that flight.

One of the videos has the person recording it shouting “kill him”, guy was scared for his safety.

In defense of the crowd hitting the car, nobody there knew the intention of the driver at the time. We’ve seen it happen in other countries, car drives through a crowd with the intention of the driver to cause serious harm. Perhaps the crowd thought that’s what was happening tonight and their first instinct was to try and stop the driver. 
 

Whole thing is horrific.
