The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Champions League

Recommended Posts

All of our competition play in Europe or FA Cup. We could be playing Arsenal with nothing to play for, Man U and Villa after they play European games. Brighton focused on the FA Cup and Everton on the beach.

Definitely torn between Europa, with a half decent chance of progressing deep into the competition or CL with massive financial and player benefits. What a nice predicament to ponder.

What? You'd be insane to prefer Europa.

Aye, Villa are in the quarter finals of the CL this year, absolutely no reason we couldn't do that next season.

Now that we’ve finally got the trophy monkey off of our backs I care less about advancing in the Europa League. It would be nice, but the CL money moves us closer to our next long term goals (winning the league or the CL).

I feel like getting the CL would unlock money for squad rejuvenation and not selling our stars.

For that it’s a no contest with the Europa.

A cup win and another CL finish gives our FMV a nice big boost.  Much more guaranteed revenue from the competition itself too. We can just add quality.

Gagging for a Europa League run. I get the arguments in favour but I'm no more endeared by the Champions League despite our soiree there last season. The Europa is a better competition with significant prestige and holds some painful memories for us to vanquish.

I've all the time in the world for the Conference but it's totally undermined if the PL entrants are the default winners.

I'm absolutely delighted we're in Europe no matter what, I'd love to win the Conference League (despite that name just instantly lowering the prestige). Europa would also be fantastic, but sadly in this PSR world, we probably need CL to continue our growth and rebuild properly. Agree with Yorkie, I'd actually prefer to be in Europa if all things (PSR) were equal as that's a genuine chance of another trophy. Getting fucking greedy now aren't I.

Theuve only beaten Leicester, Southampton, West Ham, Wolves all at home since the middle of December.
lost to Fulham, Ipswich, City, Brighton, Villa and Arsenal.

draws to Everton, Palace, Bournemouth.

Not beaten a team above 16th since a 2-1 victory over Brentford in the middle of December.

Incredible they are 4th despite all that.

Very happy with conference football, gives some of the squad a chance to impress. I think CL would play out the same as last time, we put everything into it, and don't have the squad to maintain league form as well.

The Conference is the one West Ham won while finishing 14th and Chelsea are the big favourites this year despite mostly playing a second string team. Should be an easy way to never have to mention the Fairs Cup win again.

If you're a travelling supporter, I think the Conference would be a laugh. But there's something exciting about a big CL match at SJP, hosting Barcelona or Juve etc.

The bloated format and expectation of progress undermines that now though. Beating PSG was seismic for many reasons, including the stakes being so high. Didn't matter in the end, but at the time...

Have really enjoyed watching Fiorentina this season. They've been good.

I'm going with them to win it over Chelsea.

As for Newcastle. Has to be the Champions League ideally.

The money from all those games would be huge.

The new format also increases the chances of progressing through.

CL qualification off the heels of a trophy win would put us in such a strong position for the summer. We'd be in total control of where we want to take the squad. The new format also makes it much more likely we could get at least to the playoff round and there's more money available than last time.

The Europa League would be a fun consolation with a likelihood of progressing far and a possibility of winning it. The money can become decent if you make it far enough too.

There are some famous clubs, but at least half of the teams in the final eight of this year's conference league have Championship-level revenues. There are spending disparities in all competitions, but the gap is a bit extreme for the top PL clubs.
