The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Champions League

Recommended Posts

Just ignoring Villa and City, if we win on Sunday and Chelsea and Forest don't we only need 2-3 points.  If tat situation happens we ensure we finish above Chelsea the week after and it would also take a miracle for Forest or Villa to finish above us.

Who cares?

Arne Slot and the players, I'd imagine. They'll want to keep momentum and win the league as emphatically as possible. That is the mentality champions have in any sport.

Well he’s rotating.  Form of champions in a league season they win tends to fall off. Would love if they win mind but I think the chances have reduced.

Aye but he's not bringing in Paul Dummett and Matt Ritchie. Liverpool's back up players are more than good enough to beat a Chelsea side who until the last few games were routinely being booed off their pitch by their fans.

Checked the previous seasons where a team secured the title a few games before the season ended.

The overall picture was a slight drop off in form, but none of them had a negative win/loss ratio.

Exactly, we only need to think about Chelsea and Forest.

100% this.

City are nailed on and frankly I'll graciously let them have that after they done us a solid by putting daylight between us and Villa.

Villa have a mountain to climb, it's not out of the question that they'll win all their remaining games but surely we'll be home and dry before they could worry us again.

The two teams we need to collapse are the ones most likely to. One which is a very limited team in a false position and the other which is a notorious basket case and on the verge of their annual manager sacking.

TL:DR; we'll be reet

Until this weekend. Because if we lose and Villa win, we'll have to worry about them as well.

It's up to us at the end of the day. We will know by the end of the Forest game, a much clearer picture on whether we are in a stronger position, no real change or if we are in a poorer position. A win would be massive though, as if we do, there maybe a possible opportunity that we can confirm qualification against Chelsea. None of the four teams this weekend has an easy game.

You're right, Villa's champions league chances will be probably dependent on the next two games. Win those two and they will be playing Tottenham and Man U teams with key players rested and thoughts on the Europa final (though it wouldn't probably matter anyway with their form this season).

They probably need to win all four games to be even a worry for us, but, unfortunately both Fulham and Bournemouth's form has certainly dipped recently. Both need points though for their own European ambitions.

Just for context, but fans of the most successful club of recent times, the only one to win four in a row, yes, Man City, still refer to poor results or unexpected events as "typical City".

Their nonstop success has not stopped some fans looking on the negative side and half-expecting things to go wrong. For some football fans of some clubs, this condition seems incurable.

For contrast, other fans of other clubs and pundits pandering to them have no problem in assuming they have already signed other clubs' prime assets, such as Alexander Isak.

Heard somewhere that if they win the remaining games their points tally will be higher than City’s last year? Something like that, if not quite that. Would definitely quieten the narrative about their being weak champions

Or now the pressures off they reopen to their start of the season form, that’s what I’m hoping for. Away to Brighton isn’t our best fixture and it pains me to say it but I’ll take a point this weekend.

Big words - there’s only two points in it and we have Brighton, Arsenal and Chelsea to play yet. No way you can say that

To many if and buts in here. Just sit back and stop trying to predict every result for the rest of the season.[emoji38]

If we take care of ourselves, we'll be fine.

History would suggest a dip in form for newly crowned PL winners in the same season.  Not being pessimistic, it’s just a slight advantage for Chelsea in the fixture compared to otherwise.

History would suggest they used to go out and get pissed and be hung over, they’re all tee total and different nowadays, I still think Liverpool will beat em.

I still haven't forgiven Man City for going on the piss until 4am before the FA Cup final.

Fucked our European chances.

He can and he has, like he did for the League Cup. Don’t doubt the prophet.

I'm the same, don't understand what the worry is about.
