I didn’t know so many PL fans didn’t know Cup winners get European spots and the permutations.

If you are referring to me, i was just being silly. I could easily work out what's what but I can't be arsed because it's boring as fuck.

Beat Arsenal = CL

I wasn’t at anyone specific.

Aye, 10 years ago you'd worry about them staying up maybe. They can give the Europa League a proper go safe in the knowledge they'll not go down. Think Quarter Finals of the Europa League should be par these days for any Premier League team.

Yep. I don’t think the Man U/Spurs model of crashing the league is ideal either which is why I think squad size will also be an issue.

They can crash the league and FA Cup. But they still need a bigger squad. Momentum is good for Europe imo. Yo some degree anyway.

Need Forest to draw today (them winning is better than them losing probably too)

a draw is perfect,

then go all to beat chelsea last day.

ps. just looked - it would still take a hell of a GD swing for them to get ahead of chelsea.

'Just' a 4-0 forest win

It’s a shame it has to come down to the final day as I reckon 67 points will be enough with Forest dropping points today and either Chelsea or Villa dropping points in the last game. Probably an uncomfortable 90 mins against Everton unless we grab a couple of early goals.

Looking at Everton pre-match today, next week will be a bit anti-climatic for them won’t it?

100%. It’s why I’ve been very comfortable with that as our last game for a while.

5-0 due to goals scored, so that's extremely unlikely, but they would know that if they win Man Utd could maybe surprise a few folk on their final home match of the season with Villa, whereas if they lose they are guaranteed 7th.

A draw would definitely be best from our perspective, but I'd still rather they lost than won today to at least guarantee a top 6 finish and Europa.

Can't deny I'd be a bit disappointed if we fell out of the CL places at this stage, really, really want that CL football assured asap.

However, the absolute worst case scenario for the end is looking like a major trophy and a place in the EL next year. That scenario still represents the best season's achievement I've ever known - the worst that can happen is still the best I've ever known. That's quite a large and shiny silver lining imo :)

Worst case scenario is still 7th and conference, which would still be a memorable season given the cup win, but it would feel like a damp squib knowing that 2nd place was still up for grabs 7 days before the end of the season.

It would be amazing even if we got EL but it would slightly sour it as I get the feeling some big clubs will start to come sniffing and turn the head of a few of our players (even if we don’t end up selling them). Further, 6 other teams with CL will now have an advantage over us in FFP.

For the sake of 3 points it will make the whole of next season a lot more difficult to compete.

Agree a draw is better than a loss but not that a win is better than a loss!

They lose today and that means Forest win last day and we’re good even if we lose both games (unless we get battered)

I agree that a Forest loss is better than a win, as it would guarantee top 6, but there is also the perspective that if Forest won today they would be more motivated on the final day with something concrete to play for (vs Chelsea), whereas if they lose today they are guaranteed 7th and Conference no matter what, so may give some kids a run out. If they win today and draw Chelsea on the final day then we'd still have a chance of top 5 if we only gained one point from the final 2 matches.

Draw is definitely the best outcome though.

Couldn't give a flying fuck what Forest do tbh. Just need our boys to win one more.

Everybody knows we’re need one more win, the reason why people give a fuck on other results as those two fixtures aren’t easy ago not there yet. Arsenal will not give that second place up without a fight today and will be well up for it.

I get it’s more complicated with the teams wining European competitions but it’s been like that for domestic cups for ages, don’t know how it keeps getting asked!

With the Arsenal VAR ‘was it out so-called controversy it was amazing to find out how many fans don’t know it has to be the whole ball.

Some fans don't even know you can't be offside from a goal kick or a throw in.

It stands to reason that you would want favourable results in matches involving teams in and around us. The whole 'if we don't beat xxx, then we don't deserve xxx' argument is lame as well. If Villa lost Man Utd would they not deserve it? Likewise if Chelsea lost to Forest? The league is over 38 games not 1 or 2, and if we get more points than 15 other teams we would deserve it, and it that means rivals dropping points to increase our chances, then that's great.

While it's in our hands, I just don't see the point in worrying about other results, Forest's in particular.

I did it last time and it sucked all of the enjoyment out of the experience.

It's incredibly unlikely that Forest catch us and if they do it means that Chelsea might not. Yeah it'd be better if they have something to play for next week, but the City Ground will be bouncing anyway, so we're probably talking marginal gains.

Oh course, but the worrying and stressing about permutations is futile, especially when Forest's game doesn’t really do much for us. Favourable results are more in hope than expectation, we're still really nicely placed.

The only realistic way Forest overtake us is if they win their last two, meaning we'd have to lose the last two with a GD of at least -5 for Chelsea to overtake us too.

It's one or the other now. If we'd got a draw at Villa we'd be there now (although I appreciate every team can say something similar).
