Erikse
So Arsenal finishing 6th instead of 5th while winning CL will simply remove an english europa league spot for no reason, so that england has less european spots? Why? CL would still be 1-6.. The same if Chelsea win ECL. If we then finish top 5, the conference league spot is simply removed, with no other differences and therefore 1 less spot in total. Also some other confusing things like: If Newcastle finish top 5, Arsenal finish 6th and win the CL (hah!) Champions League: 1-5, Arsenal as UCL winners (6) Europa League: 8, FA Cup winners Conference League: -- Okay, but what about 7th? The College Dropout
Teams don’t tend to win the game after they win a league title in that season. Almost never happens as far as I remember? Would be happy with a Chelsea draw then. Playing Liverpool the game after they win the league is the luckiest slot they could have gotten and it may get them a CL spot
BermyToon
So we are pretty much guaranteed Europa League given the 11-point gap we have with the 8th placed team.

Ikon
Massive that we have about one week between games plus the position we are in. There shouldn’t be a lack of energy or motivation. Cup finals. If we can’t make it from here then we obviously don’t deserve it. Let’s do it!

toon25
The fixture scheduling this year is a reet joke. FA Cup and European finals all before the end of the league season, FFS.
southernmag
To be fair, we've delivered some dire performances after week long breaks between games in the not too distant past, so I don't put too much weight on that. But 8 days rest is better than half that, and we're in good form. So what could go wrong...
JigsawGoesToPieces
Crazy to think if we had won the home games v Brighton, West Ham & Fulham we would be 2nd by 2 points.
The College Dropout
For me the 3x games a week is a lot mentally and adds up over time. Villa going back down to 1x a week should help them.

I guess a lot of titles are decided on the last day, which removes the opportunity, but I think you're right about titles that are won early.

That West Ham games still irritates me whenever it comes up. They were awful at that point of the season and we rolled over. Losing to Brighton and Fulham is by the by, could happen to any team in the league, they are both very good.
The College Dropout
More annoyed by the Brighton game. We were pretty good for chunks of that. West Ham we were awful throughout. I've started to assume that Forest will need a result against Chelsea to confirm CL. But I look at their fixtures and they could have it wrapped up. If they get 6 points between West Ham & Palace (A) + Brentford (H) they will have it wrapped up. Leicester is a formality. I've long targeted finishing above Chelsea & Leicester being enough. But with Liverpool winning the title and the match being at Stamford Bridge - I can see Chelsea winning when they wouldn't have pre-title win. I thought we were pretty crap second half and never really looked like scoring.

Also interesting to see how many who do win the title early, still have Champions League or an FA Cup Final to play for which could lead them to taking their foot off a bit. Liverpool playing freely will beat Chelsea I reckon, whereas if they were about to play Inter or Barcelona for example over two legs, they'd not. It's way too easy to read too much into what our opponents might do, when the reality is that it's in our hands. As far as I'm concerned, nothing has really changed. You could just as easily frame our tie at Arsenal becoming easier with the title done and dusted, when in reality it's been over for weeks and it's still our toughest remaining fixture. We just need to take one game at a time and enjoy the ride.
