The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Conference League (at least)

Recommended Posts

Psychology is massive though. Yes over half of our remaining games are against the current top 7 but if you look at each match as a one off event, who in the top 7 looks at us at the moment and thinks a) I'm happy we're playing this lot or b) we'll have these - I doubt any of them do. Yes we're NUFC and yes we like to fuck things up but the way we're playing at the moment I think that we'll have an edge before the games even start.

I can't wait for Arsenal away - our hardest game remaining? Probably. Another chance to rattle lego head and see Bruno shithouse all of them soft cunts? Absolutely.

We’re 5 goals to zero, three wins against them this season. Shall we beat the ‘European Champions’ (sic) four times? Oh! go on then.

On our day we can match any team in the country, we've beaten Arsenal 3 times which is a fair basis to judge any side on.

We've had consistency issues, which related firstly to finding the midfield balance and secondly our inability to rotate players when they needed a rest after a long spell in the side.

The first part is already fixed, we know our best midfield and the chemistry is perfect.

The second part requires two things, firstly a squad of sufficient depth to rotate players in and out. For example, we can't mount a title challenge when in order to give Bruno a rest we bring Longstaff on in his place. Secondly, Eddie has to bite the bullet at times and show he's willing to rest the odd player who is in a performing side before they get jaded. This isnt a criticism of Howe, it's just something new he's going to have to think about.

If next season, we can come off a win and have the bravery to, let's say rest Gordon and bring Barnes in, rest Botman and bring Burn in or even rest a fundamental player like Isak/Tonali, only then will we have the capacity to mount a serious threat.

Our first team players are going to have to quickly realise that they are going to have to sit on the bench and be rested from time to time. This will prevent injuries and allow us to keep our levels up.

....

Anyway, I'd be shocked if we didn't get CL from this point. It would also be nice to get 3rd or 4th too.

Give him another £170m to sign 4 players. GK, CB, CM, attacker.

He rotates players he trusts.  He didn’t trust Tino or Hall back then.  But he did rotate with Wilson and Barnes as he trusted them.

My only issue with Howe is that he might not play young talents like Tino or Hall from the start (Osula isn’t that level). He was too quick to get Tino back on the bench and he essentially perma benched Hall after a few poor showings.

The last thing we need to crack is our away record against the better sides. I have no doubt it'll come with time.

Something else we need to get better at is those mid table sides like Fulham and Bournemouth (who have both had good seasons TBF). Brighton really are our bogey side as well, sick of losing to them. That's the one game in this run we've got where I can't see past a defeat

So a potential of 10 clubs from England in Europe next season then?

5 UCL from the league positions

+1 possible UCL spots from Europa League

1 in the Europa League from league positions

+1 possible spot from Conference League

1 in Conference League from league position

And then 1 extra spot pushed down the league.

Is that right?

Seems crazy to have so many from one league. Especially in the UCL. Good for us though ofcourse .

1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th + potentially MU or TH  in ChL

6th, 7 or Palace  in EurL

7th or 8th  ConL (depending on Palace winning/losing the FA Cup)

That correct? Not sure who gets the EL place if Chelsea win the ConL but finish 8th?

I don't think people are pissing themselves, it's reasonable to be cautious about getting overly carried away when half of our remaining games are against the current top 7.

We're in the box seat, but it's by no means a foregone conclusion.

On paper Forest and Man City do have more favourable fixtures. However Villa and Chelsea have harder

Average league position of opposition.

Chelsea 7.33

Villa.       8.83

Us.         9.33

Man C.    12.16

Forest.    13.50

Been saying it for a while, I know champions league in Pinnacle of club football but I'd be happy with Europa league, honestly think it's a great chance of another trophy, looking at Spurs and Man Utd in last 4 makes me think of another trophy opportunity...

What's people's thoughts?

I get that point but to not get CL from this point would be very disappointing.  I also think CL quietens down all the bullshit Isak noise and allows us to sign better players in the summer. I wouldn’t completely throw my toys out of the pram if we got Europa league but CL allows the club to really kick on again this summer. It could be on the verge of being a really top side and CL helps facilitate that.

Regular Champions League participation is how we grow as a cloob.

If we get CL then I’m absolutely convinced that Isak, Sandro et al all stay and we also add 4/5 quality players to the squad (GK, CB, RW, ST)

Rinse and repeat for 2 or 3 years and we become genuine title challengers.

Looking at two terrible Spurs and Man United teams both likely getting to the final makes me think we could win it comfortably but knowing our luck it would end up with a load of good teams in it and not the poor standard of teams in it this year .

The problem is the type of players that we need to attract in the summer if we want to continue improving will all want champions league and the likes of Isak and Tonali will want champions league football .

We are already at a massive disadvantage to the so called big 6 in terms of wages and transfer fees we can pay that I think we need champions league and all the benefits it brings to continue outperforming them .

Chelsea disdain for this competition is a joke. 29k there last night :D really hope they don’t win it because they don’t deserve it.

I think that was in part due to the way they segregated the away fans
