Sloppy goal to concede but after that it was piss easy as it should have been...reckon any minor sloppiness can be put down to a long trip which was disrupted. cubaricho Posted Saturday at 19:22 Share Posted Saturday at 19:22 Starting to look like we'll be fighting for two places; 4th or 5th. Liverpool, Arsenal, and City will have the top three sewn up. Down to us to beat what's in front of us for those other two places for CL football next season.

The College Dropout Posted Saturday at 19:32 Share Posted Saturday at 19:32 City have (likely) 3 CL fixtures and 5 tough games coming up. We’ll see if they are really back by 9th March. Us, Forest, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs. Prime City get 11 points minimum. I reckon they only get 7.
Stifler Posted Saturday at 19:51 Share Posted Saturday at 19:51 I honestly don’t think we’ll get top 4, but 5th is a possibility, and if England gets the 5th Champions League place, I think we’ll almost certainly get a European place. We also have to consider that if we do somehow manage to win the League Cup, we’ll get European football no matter what. I actually think us winning the League Cup will give us the best chance of Champions League football, as the pressure will be off us for the final 2 months of the season and it might just free us up to go for it. Skeletor Posted Saturday at 20:02 Share Posted Saturday at 20:02 Sels looked like the old Sels that we knew and didn't love today. Hopefully the heavy defeat breaks Forest's confidence and this is the end of their winning run now.

It’s the Europa Conference isn’t it, if you win the LC? I don’t think that does anything for us in terms of retaining players.

We could finish anywhere from 3rd to 7th. If we keep our players fit we’ll end up near the top of that group imo.

I don't want European football if it's not CL now really. It's utterly achievable from here (without distractions from mid-week European football), and the non-CL competitions will challenge our small squad in much the same way as CL without the added benefit of a substantial increase in TV and commercial revenue. Anything other than top five and CL would be disappointing from where we stand today imo. For me CL was always the season target anyway.

I don’t think that does anything for us in terms of retaining players. I’ve not said what I want, obviously I want us to get Champions League football, and to win the domestic cups. All I’m saying is what I think may happen. I think we’ll miss out on top 4, I think ultimately Man City and Chelsea will get those places. Top 5 is very possible for us, but the commotion will be hard. We’ll be up against Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa, with potentially Bournemouth in the background. If we do win the League Cup, then I think the fact that we do have some sort of European football next season, as well as the lift winning a trophy would give us, as well as releasing pressure, would mean that we’d have a decent run at the end of the season. To be brutally honest, if you offered me winning the League Cup, and us falling out of the European positions and only get the Conference League as a result of winning the League Cup, I’d snap your hand off right now. I’d even offer an embarrassing repeat of the Birmingham Cup result from something like 18 years ago when we lost 5-1 to them as well.
The College Dropout Posted Saturday at 21:00 Share Posted Saturday at 21:00 Lots of people rating Chelsea and City highly. Chelsea have 1 win in 7 in some really favourable fixtures. They are falling like a stone. Sure they have quality but they could continue to shit. City have only beaten relegation fodder + Chelsea in the last 9. Still don’t have any legs in midfield. Collapsed the other day in Europe. Not convinced they are back at all. The only reason I think they will finish top 5 is I expect them to lose their CL play off giving them 3 months to concentrate on the league. But they could easily finish 6th. The College Dropout Posted Saturday at 21:03 Share Posted Saturday at 21:03 Robert Sanchez is largely responsible for a lot of goals conceded though. Getting him out might change things for them. Don’t rate that Levi Colwil either. Decent left foot, sharp hairline with the spray - can’t defend. I’ve had a Chelsea triple up on FPL ffs.
nufc4eva Posted Saturday at 21:16 Share Posted Saturday at 21:16 Looking at the teams around us only Bournemouth have been better recently. We have some tough games coming up but Liverpool are the only one totally worried about. Plus point, our away from is immense right now having won our last 5 away. We aren't worse than City or Chelsea right now and City don't look that good at all, brittle as fuck.

kingxlnc Posted yesterday at 09:19 Share Posted yesterday at 09:19 Forest losing 5-0 is like our Pardew season where we lost some games heavily and had a low GD at the end Forests is only 6 at the moment despite their high points total

Look at this run of games from Chelsea, where they'd have expected to beat all of them, but did win a single game:
Menace Posted yesterday at 09:32 Share Posted yesterday at 09:32 I'm not worried about Chelsea or Forest. I'm worried about depth. One big injury to any of our starting 11 and our shape basically crumbles.

We have to go all out to come above Forest and Bournemouth and hope that's enough. I think where we finish will depend on if we can maintain our high energy levels. When we are at 100%, closing down the opposition, pressing high, and full of confidence, we are good enough to beat anyone. If it drops by 10% though, that same style can get us in trouble, and we start losing the ball in dangerous areas. I think how we rotate players and keep them fresh is going to be crucial in the second half of the season.
