Nar he’s a good player who was out of form

Likely a bit of both. I always feel form is switched on and off, it's rarely a gradual play into or out of form

Something has been lit today, if it's the fact it's a big game then so what. Let's hope it's the start of a run of consistency that we know is in there

So the games in the champions league he played well against poor opposition are explained how?

Just wait until he starts away against Burnley.

Every game is big it’s just a ridiculous rhetoric and questioning intergrity is so harsh. It’s clearly form

Have we even seen this intensity against poor CL sides, or do you mean the penalty goals? Besides, some of those team were below PL level anyways, so we just dominated.

Love how we can turn a brilliant 1st half performance into a complaint about how he allegedly only turns it on for big games

Just enjoy the fact he’s having a blinder you grumpy owld bastards

People think he wants to move or has issues because he's meant to be a workhorse or has that reputation but is actually pretty lazy.

I think some of that is true and some is not. He was never great at supporting the full back defensively. Largely uninterested in opposition final third defending.  But he was the type to aggressively try to win the ball in the attacking half or in the middle of the park to start an attack. And he's the type of player to do mindless closing down to get a cheer from the fans. But he was never as diligent defensively or all-round as his reputation suggested. But also that aggression to win the ball back or gfight hard to win a foul has mostly gone. So it looks like he thinks he can get G+A through pure ability and technique alone like he's Michael Olise and he's not that guy. He has to be at the far post for tap ins, he has to scrap his way into the box for 1 touch finishes, he needs to nip the ball from a defender or a midfielder and catch the defence on the hop.. all of that builds a foundation so he has confidence to cut-in and put one in the top corner a few times a season. But he's not Michael Olise where that main foot is just cash money. But he kind of plays like he thinks he is better than the graft game he's known for.

He’s done all the good things I’ve bolded today. That anticipation and aggression is the cornerstone of his game.

He goes twice to win the ball off the defender and he arrives and fights at the back post to 1 shot finish that’s luckily saved but leads to the goal.  Aggression and nips in to win the FK that leads to the second and a wonderful ball from him too.

But it’s that graft, anticipationand mentality that builds the foundation for him to deliver quality with his feet.

It has been wonderful to see today.

But he has had too many games in 2025 where he hasn’t has this sharp mentality.

Fuck me. I’m forever giving him stick. But surely you’d rather just enjoy today (so far) and the performance he’s putting in. Instead of worrying about a game that hasn’t happened yet?!

I just find it strange that we never see that intensity and effort from him against lesser sides, knowing what he can do when he bothers to use his energy.

He was unbelievably good today. Everything positive was from him driving the game at full throttle. My MotM, despite how awesome Miley was.

His poor form has been extra frustrating because we know he can be the guy he was today. And he hasn't been.

I reckon it was his best performance since joining us, from memory. It was very special. He deserved it to be a 3 point game more than anyone.

He was excellent today but if he reverts to type against your Burnleys and Wolves then it counts for nothing.

We all know he has these performances in him against the big sides at SJP. It's the other 30 odd games where he needs to show up.

Was knackered in 2nd half

I don’t mind that considering we have Barnes at the ready

He was brilliant Gordon - the old Gordon

It’s the other side that will hurt us
