Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

We could all see Gordon was playing within himself - why then reward him with being our pen taker?  Nick's pen was one of the best I've seen - ok he missed one in a knock out - but whose to say his numbers couldn't have been up there.  Those goals would have helped take some pressure of him as well.

Don’t agree Gordon was playing within himself. But that’s a conversation that’s been done to death, so we’ll agree to disagree.

IMO the only criteria for who takes the pens, is who is the most likely to score them. From all available evidence, that would appear to be Gordon.

If he leaves, and Woltemade stays, is in the team, and deemed the best available pen taker, then absolutely he should take over.

Exactly this, the penalty thing makes me laugh, if he is the dedicated penalty taker for this season and hasn't missed one any are people questioning why he takes them?

Barca can't afford the £28mil for Rashford,  no chance they can afford Gordon unless they include a player in the deal

They can afford rashford, it's just them pleading poverty.  Also rashford has a ridiculous wage as well.

Anything above north of 60m would be great. Has been crap this season. Can't be arsed about him leaving. The money we can invest in much much better.

I wouldn’t be so sure…

Will die on the hill that we’d miss Gordon if/when he goes. Comfortably our best forward.

Sure, he thinks a bit highly of himself and his face doesn’t fit with most, but even on his worst day he never hides like some of the fannies we have playing on the wing.

I would take £75m, though no trust on replacing him.

We probably won't get a player who's at his level (when he's on form and interested) but we absolutely have to get a player who has a higher ceiling.

The last two wingers we've signed have been worse than him tbf.

Some of the prospective fees I'm seeing blow my mind. He HAS to be worth a minimum of 80M whether you agree with the way the market works or not. Even the more surface-level attributes (England int'l, pen-heavy G/A record) should work in our favour. Have to hope that Arsenal or Liverpool come in for him because Barca are a financial mess and Bayern, who don't NEED him, are very happy to haggle for months on end. They took ages to get the Kane deal done and refused to budge in their Woltemade chase.

I imagine both Liverpool and Arsenal will bid tbh. Agreed, has to be in the region of £80m imho.

I agree and disagree here. I think he is worth £75m in today’s market for sure. Especially when you consider what we paid for him in a cheaper market and with nowhere near the stats to back it up at the time.

I also think he is our best forward. But that isn’t really saying that much when you consider the competition. So I think we will miss him. Especially if we don’t reinvest the money properly and if we insist on playing the same way again next season.

Absolutely not having that bit in bold, mind. The amount of games where he has looked uninterested or not bothered about getting at the fullback. Usually when they can match him for athleticism. Is racking up into a decent amount, I would have said? You can tell what sort of game he is going to have in the opening few minutes.

That’s before the laying on the floor he does. Before eventually walking back whilst the other team are on the break.

I suppose you then have the few times where people have questioned if he is actually injured or not. Athletic Bilbao I thought he was. Man City I thought he wasn’t FWIW. I think he was injured recently. But people put two and two together with the comments from Howe and the transfer speculation.

Gordon on his day at his radge best is unplayable. I just think for various reasons. We don’t get to see that so much nowadays. When he was player of the season, he was a joy to watch from

my POV. I just don’t see that all that often these days. But it might just be me.

Of course he's worth £75m+. We paid £45m+£5m for him and he's since become an England regular, has scored goals in the Champions League and his profile has raised significantly.

OK, we know the truth that he's had one actual good season and the rest has been underwhelming and padded with loads of pens and goals against Qarabag this season, but it shouldn't matter so much.

The media will start touting him about for £50m this summer, you watch. It's always like this, when Isak was first linked away and Arsenal were apparently going to "test our resolve" with a £60m bid, like we'd actually sell a better than 1-in-3 striker at a loss

I am torn on AG, I feel he may have had his time for us but he hasn't been as bad as some have made out this season.

If we can get a proper centre forward firing and return AG to LW as a permanent fixture then we may see him return to his best.

I just believe we have bigger issues in the squad.

That being said I would not be broken hearted to see him sold for significant funds!

I resent him having pens this season tbh - even though he's good at them.
Woltemade with 15 goals this season we'd all say he was a hit and a very strong foundation to build on for next year.
Isak only got 10 in his first year with us (albeit injured for a few months)

:mackems:

Eeeh I'm gonna miss this thread.

His pens are fucking excellent but he's such a cunt

That's fair. But he does do it twice as much as any of our other wingers, and he never stops the other way either.

As I say his face doesn't fit - I know my mates would love to see the back of him and I totally get it. But I'd sooner get what we can for Barnes and keep Gordon if it were up to me.

That being said I would take £70/75m IF we were to reinvest it wisely with a couple of young, talented players from overseas. I suppose that's the part that worries me most (the fact we will just blip the money). Once bitten and all that.

Definitely considering how expensive forwards are these days. He's signed a long term contract, if any team wants him they have to meet our asking price.

I know what happened with Isak but we didn't have a DOF in place then who actually knew how to negotiate.

Obviously the German league is of a lower standard but it would be a hell of a move from him and his agent if he wound up at Bayern Munich like.

They're the best team in Europe (certainly top 2) at the moment. Certainly not their level but fair play if he got that move. I do think they'd try lowball us to fuck though.

Given the prices wingers went for last summer including our very own Elanga, £70m should be the bottom line but I think £75/80m is doable.
