Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

To a degree he has. Become a full international player, scored double figures in CL, double figures in goals and assists in the PL, played a huge part in our trophy run since he came from Everton.

Didn’t play the game that mattered most. Through being an idiot.

He’s accomplished.

But I’m talking compared to the others. He’s not actually played consistently well for us.  The year Cabaye left he was on fire. Demba was on fire. List goes on.

Bayern is not going to pay north of 50m.  Gordon has no lobby among football fans in Germany and I guess Eberl is going to wait and wait and wait until we eventually crumble. The worst scenario would be some kind of swap deal including Gnabry.

He goes for more than Elanga and Madueke. That I’m certain.

Latest on Bayern's Gordon pursuit:

As far as how committed the Bavarians are to this pursuit, it appears that the the club has all of the necessary support, including from the notoriously fickle and frugal supervisory board. Per Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Heiko Niedderer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich is aligned internally on getting Gordon:

The supervisory board is fully behind the transfer of Anthony Gordon and want to back Max Eberl in order to complete the move. Nevertheless, Newcastle’s asking price would have to be brought down. Gordon wants to join Bayern.

It is hard to think about when was the last time that everyone at Bayern Munich was aligned on anything, let alone a potential transfer. While there will be a limit to how far Bayern Munich will go to get Gordon, it appears that the club has made it a primary goal for the summer transfer window.

Think they're going to end up paying up. They ended up paying a total package of £65.5 million for an older Diaz last summer, and all of their recent Prem imports have worked out incredibly well, in Kane, Olise and Diaz. Kane is also encouraging the move too allegedly. Think this is going to happen and we'll get something like £70 million plus £5 million or more in extras.

it’s a shame it didn’t work out here, maybe with a short back and sides, coupled with a more modest attitude and a bit more self awareness, he could have been a club legend.

Good luck to him. I’m sure he will go on to do very well over there.

on to the next hot prospect please.

Think the cloob will push to get this done asap, standing firm on the asking price.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again.

Gordon needs to prepare himself mentally all week to have a good match. If something goes wrong, if a negative thought enters his head then he loses his mentality to go out there and perform.

It’s exhausting for him and you can see that at times he’s not going to be good mentally for a periods at a time.

He Absolitly can’t deal with a club being in bad form either, he’s not the one to turn things around.

We’ve also found out that he can’t deal with big games. He’s got himself sent off either in or ahead of big games for us, like ahead of the cup final, and against Liverpool this season. He also missed that penalty against Everton which would have won us the game, because the Everton crowd got into his head.

Despite what people say, including himself, he’s not good enough at finishing chances to play on the middle of a top 3.

If he thinks he will be able to go to the likes of Bayern, Liverpool, etc and not get found out, then good luck to him, but at £75m-£80m, I know which end of the deal I’d rather be on.

I don’t particularly like him as a player. But I think some of that is harsh and full of assumptions. He has had plenty of big games and moments for us against top sides.

He single handedly dragged us through games and a lot of the season back when we had all the injuries. 23/24?

Admittedly, I’ve not seen the same levels on a consistent basis from him since. But I also think teams have him a bit more sussed, as they have with our tactics in general.

Not anything new or controversial. But I do think there has been a change since that summer where we were going to sell him to Liverpool and he probably wanted to go there, in fairness.

Said it most the season. But for our supposed second highest earner. He really does have too many games where he offers fuck all and is a huffy, moody bastad.

I am overly harsh on him, mind. Unless he is playing like the Gordon of old. I find him frustrating to watch and I think when he slows it down and tries to be a more technical player. He isn’t anywhere near good enough to do it and it takes away from what makes him great in the first place.

I think it will be hard to replace him in some ways. But also not arsed if he goes. Assuming we get £65m as a minimum.

I’ve got to say, I’ve found Gordon really frustrating to watch during his time here, probably because he clearly has all the attributes to be a top player. His pace, work rate and ability are obvious, but around the box he’s been surprisingly ineffective in my opinion. The lack of goals and assists in the PL is nowhere near the level I expected after the 22/23 season.

He will go down like a Ruel Fox or a Darren Ambrose or Andros Townsend to me. At best a Gillespie. I’d say even Almiron had better moments for us overall.

Decent to good players, a few magic moments but not memorable and won’t be fussed seeing them play elsewhere.

Nowhere near a Solano, Robert, Jonas, Ben Arfa, Ginola despite what his ego thinks.

Some of our best moments came with him NOT in the side, he's a decent player but he's not as good as he or the media think and his attitude stinks at times. Lets just get a good fee for him and he can be replace.

England international who is in his prime.  We've seen how good he can be he's just not shown it for a couple of seasons.

I was making a joke about hoe the Toxic Six would bitch we got too much for him.

Yeah he's not getting much recognition here like. He's easily our best winger, it's not even close. Selling him to an English side would be a disaster. Happy enough for him to go to Bayern if that's what he wants and the money is right. He's went about it the right way by the looks of it.

He'll be tough for us to replace I reckon

Barnes. There. Replaced. 😄

Just completed bike tour in Croatia and a Bayern fan who was on the tour with us considers Flash a good fit. The fact he denied Barnes his usual position I believe he won't be missed. Performance wise, Gordon has become erratic lately and just hope LiVARpoop don't swoop in.

On our way home to see the last 2 games, sad that we may save Spurs with a win v Wet Spam!

Think that's harsh, presumably you referencing he didn't play in the final but he was stand out performer in them semi legs v Arsenal.

He’s been a solid enough player for most of his time here - I think a move to Bayern is perfect for all concerned.

We should consider taking a lower fee if required - just make sure we have a decent sell-on fee to make up for it

He is one of our best players plain and simple. We have not had a good season by any means. We let him go for a decent fee, do we really trust our current transfer lot to find anyone better or more effective? Proven prem players have been a total disaster (looking at you Elanga and Wissa)....time to be brave and take chances. Yes we might lose some money, but we've lost out by playing safe

Same feelings, I guess we can't really keep him if he wants out, and selling him outside of the PL is the best option.

But I don't like the smell of selling your best attacker 2 seasons in a row.

If our scouting is good enough, and we raise our risk profile a bit, we could get three quality players for that £75m. If we can unearth the next two Rayans for example (one left, one right), we'd have money leftover to buy a keeper. Big ifs but this is where the DoF earns his crust.

Of course they will.

Clarification: 50m£, I don’t think they can justify more than 62m€ in the summer they don’t want to spend big again (as they stated on their AGM.

We bought Gordon for around 45m. There is no way we are selling for 50m.
