All you complaining about the price must have loved the isak drama last season. We just need to get it done so we can move of from it

You'd be okay missing out on a potential 10-20mil on our summer transfer budget?

There's no guarantee they'd get that additional money, and waiting till a month before the season to maybe get it, would be a terrible idea.

Knowing this club he'd get injured during the World Cup and would end up stuck at Newcastle.

Just hope this pushes things to get done ASAP, have zero emotions about him going like, about the same as he has for NUFC I suspect.

Should we just accept below par offers for all of our players then?

That's where PSR has the non-elite over a barrel. Unsettle a player, low-ball early on. You can accept it and get on with your business (which is what they want).

Or do what we did last summer, try to get as much money as possible but it fucks you over.

Football is fucking shit.

It's not a below par offer [emoji38]

I'm not sure where this £80 million valuation has even come from, especially considering how he's often spoken about on here [emoji38]

That's cheap IMO, in this market. Feels like having been burned by the Isak saga we are keen to just get things moving without having the piss taken out of us, especially with it being a world cup summer.

Priced to sell is how id describe it.

bummer. He’d be so great for us. Paris hoovering up all the cool attackers.

Luckily we beat off all the competition from the bigger clubs for Elanga at least.. ;) Who so many on here for some odd reason thought would be a good/great signing.

(I'm just talking in general here, so nothing directed towards you in this case mate)

It's what the club value him as rather than us though?

Clearly the club value him higher than the money Bayern and Barcelona are bidding at

Pretty good as an opening offer, tbf, squeeze another £5M up front plus more/more achievable add-ons and it’ll get done pre-WC, you’d think.

Feels like the same story just a different club.  Personal terms agreed but without a bid to match our valuation.

Had a whole summer of it last year with journos trying to force us to accept a lower offer

Lot of it going around - farm clubs being forced to accept less from the elite clubs for players than before when selling players is what the rules have forced some of them to do anyway and is a major source of sustenance for others.

Still, at least its all nice and fair now

The Athletic have apparently said we want £70 million.

Their opening bid is supposedly £60 million. Think there's a good chance they'll come to some sort of agreement.

Why would either of the interested clubs offer us what we want or deem fair from the off? Personally I think 70m is a very fair price overall. Which no one has offered, yet..

It’s a balance isn’t it.

You have to judge if any potential additional fee you’re sacrificing is worth it to allow you to move for quickly for any replacement targets.

Easy with hindsight, but we’d probably have taken a bit less for Isak if (granted, big if) it had allowed us to get one of our targets from earlier in the window.

Posted (edited)

Given that several clubs want him we should be able to negotiate some.. If they wait they'll just lose him to a different club. Liverpool was the only team willing to pay that kind of money for Isak, so they weren't in a hurry. Plus, getting Gordon before WC could matter a lot.

Getting Isak so late did end up screwing Liverpool over, btw.

The article above says they've bid £70m plus addons.

There is a difference. We wanted to keep Isak. We want to sell Gordon.

I’d take anything over £70m but if we could go above £75m it would be unreal business. Especially against scam artists Barca

Ooof ... so they've essentially bid around £70 million plus add-ons.

Yeah, this one is going to get done pretty soon I reckon. Probably just ironing out the details on those add-ons.
