There's no guarantee they'd get that additional money, and waiting till a month before the season to maybe get it, would be a terrible idea. You have to judge if any potential additional fee you’re sacrificing is worth it to allow you to move for quickly for any replacement targets. Easy with hindsight, but we’d probably have taken a bit less for Isak if (granted, big if) it had allowed us to get one of our targets from earlier in the window. Liverpool was the only team willing to pay that kind of money for Isak, so they weren't in a hurry. Plus, getting Gordon before WC could matter a lot.
