Anthony Gordon (now playing for FC Barcelona)

Recommended Posts

Yeah it's the same finish we kept seeing time and again when he played from the left which is why there was a clamour for Barnes to start because you give Barnes two chances like that and he's scoring one of them or atleast working he keeper.

But that's the frustration with Gordon, he showed such composure and accuracy for his goal but then other chances just leans back and doesn't concentrate. You'd think he has done that cut in and shot 1000's of times in training and it should be routine. So to sky it twice in the same way is pretty poor.

But as said before. Cannot fault his work rate and he is the least of our problems and probably do well to hang on to him in the summer if other clubs came calling.

Just wondered if games like yesterday we need him on the wing more as he gets abit lost amongst a low block and were relying on lesser players around him to creat chances then.

he tried his heart out yesterday this lad

Only one who can take credit due to this.

Least of our worries at the moment.

Gets unfair stick at times - been guilty of it myself. As stated he was probably the only one to come out of yesterday with any credit.

He was great for the goal and he worked his bollocks off.  Odd to say considering he now has 17 goals and is great at penalties.  But I still don't like his finishing.  Had two almost identical chances yesterday and both were miles over and bang in the middle of the goal.

I think him, Joelinton and maybe Hall did ok yesterday and performed up to their respective levels.

He's not a natural finisher and he isn't a striker  it isn't something we should hold against him. Players of similar calibre also fluff those chances.

Yep.  I've never rated his finishing, he never seems to strike it cleanly and goes for a side foot with not much power.

On his two yesterday, it's a shame he didn't do that.  As their keeper looked so ropey, he probably would have spilled the ball out back into the box, Ramsdale style.

To be clear I don't hold that against him. He's one of our better players and I've not been one of those who has gone in on him like many have on here. I think he's one of our few players who have the big game mentality and shows up and that shows in his willingness to step up and take penalties just as one example.

He needs to focus on finding the bottom corner instead of the top corner. The low ones usually are much better.

The take of his goal was much better than maybe we think, he did brilliantly to control it and shift it away form the two defenders. It was no way a tap-in.

Anthony Gordon says Newcastle United's defeat by rivals Sunderland is "not good enough" because the Black Cats are "not very good" compared with the Magpies.

Sunderland completed a league double over their north-east rivals on Sunday with a 2-1 win at St James' Park, having beaten the Magpies 1-0 in the reverse fixture.

The defeat means the Tyneside club have failed to beat Sunderland in any of their past 11 league meetings - the longest winless run for either club in the fixture's history.

But Newcastle forward Gordon, who scored his side's opener before Sunderland's comeback through goals from Chemsdine Talbi and Brian Brobbey, says Eddie Howe's side are the better team.

"The frustrating thing is, in my opinion, they're not a very good team compared to us. We shouldn't lose to them," Gordon told Newcastle's club media.

"Away is obviously more difficult because they have the fans, the atmosphere and a bit more pressure, but at home we should not lose that game. Not with the first half that we had, but again we haven't been good enough starting second halves and it's an ongoing problem."

Sunderland's victory means they leapfrogged Newcastle in the table, with the Magpies dropping to 12th.

The loss followed an 8-3 aggregate defeat by Barcelona in the Champions League.

"Not good enough really, no excuses," said Gordon.

"We were good for 45 minutes, which has been the case too often this season - we actually knew going into the game and had been trying to work on it.

"Not good enough start to the second half and they were the better team second half."

The man is a brain dead idiot. Keep your stupid pathetic thoughts to yourself. Action not words. Dickhead.

Tbh he's backed up his words with actions. He's been one of our best players this season IMO, and he's turned up in the big games for the most part.

It's too many others who have wilted.

Stupid comment, I get where he's coming from but they're above us in the league and have beaten us twice, pretty clear who is currently the better team...

You think overall Sunderland are a better team than us?

They are shite. We just spent a lot of money to build a side that's not demonstrably better.

Maybe stop shooting as if your foot is a pitching wedge before talking about how good you are.

Been our best player since going up top. We’ll just have to accept the inconsistent finishing for the rest of the season, but at least he gets chances and shots which is automatically better than any of the other options.

I watched his interview, I thought it was as good as can be - we need actions ultimately, but they can't not give an interview either. He's correct about Sunderland and he's not using it to have a dig at them, he's explaining how we've no excuse for losing to them, which is right. Especially when we were ahead - these are the third lowest scorers in the league.
