We should’ve tried throwing Livramento in as a sweetener, to get this incredible and believable deal over the line.

£75m for Gordon? Errr... nope, need a bit more than that thanks.

Don’t forget we would’ve got a decent stop gap until Botman is back fit though for a mere £45m.

Liverpool Echo claim the move could be revived and the Newcastle winger could still move to Anfield this summer.

They report:

It had been known back in late June that Liverpool were offered Gordon by Newcastle with the proviso Jarell Quansah moved in the opposite direction, a deal the Reds swiftly dismissed given Quansah is seen as a key tenet in their future team at centre-back. But that they subsequently agreed a deal for Gordon makes it unequivocal - they want him and the player wants to join.

Of course, long is the list of players who came close to completing a transfer only to ultimately never make the proposed move. It happens regularly.

But there's a sense Liverpool's interest in Gordon - and Newcastle's private acceptance the winger wants to go to Anfield - isn't going to dissipate any time soon. The prevailing mood suggests there would be increasingly little surprise should the player end up with the Reds sooner rather than later.

Gordon's previous career at Everton is unlikely - well, Merseyside derbies apart - to cause much of an issue, given the Scouser was a boyhood Liverpool supporter and has rarely hidden his admiration for the club.

Newcastle, though, are in a position to play hardball. Gordon hasn't thus far agitated for a move and, with there no longer a pressing need to move on players, the Magpies can bump up the price for the 23-year-old. Indeed, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe regards the player as "integral" to his team this coming season.

He'll have a new contract very soon IMO.

Hopefully with a release clause so people can still spend the season needlessly shitting themselves

Personally I don’t see people shitting themselves though. 99% that even talk about it they more or less mean hypothetically (imply) at how shit it would be. Myself I’m 90% certain that he’ll stay. Even if he did go then so be it. I only want players that genuinely want to stay (which I think he wants).

Gordon is good and a key part of the team, but I'd be less concerned at losing him than Bruno or Isak.
Good left wingers are readily available, and would have faith in buying an as good if not better.
Would struggle to do that with the other two.

This is based off an opinion piece from the Echo's equivalent of Lee Ryder, fwiw.
