Anthony Gordon

Well from that POV I'm not against selling anyone. I know the money would be invested in any event.

But I still think we can have a view on which players we would rather keep/use.

We only need to be concerned about selling players whom can't be replaced. A healthy Isak, Sandro, Id throw Hall in there too.

It's not that I actively want to sell Gordon, I just recognise we aren't owned by Ashley anymore and player trading on our terms is the way to go.

Yeah but I think it does say something when you sell your top young players. Like, I wouldn't want to replace him with 2 Brighton-style spreadsheet players just because of PSR.

Unless we have to, obviously.

I get the impression we've got no real intention of going for spreadsheet players.

And I don't think we have to sell anyone this summer - far from it, but in a weird way I think that makes us a bit more likely to sell. Trading is definitely going to stay a part of our lives for the foreseeable future, and selling from a position of strength means we can extract maximum value rather than going to clubs with our begging bowl out.

So we'll see. I'm certainly not expecting any big sales, but I won't be too surprised by some kind of surprise - it feels like we've got some significant moves in mind.

I wouldn’t actively try to sell him, absolutely not. However, IF we get an offer that is very very good then I wouldn’t be against it. He’s very good but also a bit limited in some regards.

Only makes some kind of sense to sell him if it means we can get a couple of extra quality players to strengthen in our weaker areas.

I don’t rate him as highly as I do Botman, Hall, Isak, Bruno and Tonali.

I feel like LW would instantly need reinforcements if the only good option was Barnes. Although I rate Barnes.

Of course it would.

So then we would maybe make a small profit on Gordon but need to spend 20-30m on a replacement.

I wouldn’t sell him if it was for a tiny profit. Also, IF we did sell him then I would go for a very highly rated young winger and use the money for other areas.

His attitude has been awful since his dream move fell through last summer - out of our ‘big guns’, he’s easily the most replaceable - we’ve even got someone there now!

The way I judge an attacking player is what skillset do they possess if they lose their pace (possible serious injury)? Our best players across the pitch - Isak (finishing), Tonali (anticipation, set pieces), Bruno (press resistance, through balls), Botman (heading, passing, anticipation).

Even Barnes (elite finishing) and Murphy (crossing, shooting),albeit an inferior player, offers more attacking threat if pace is impacted.

Gordon is becoming predictable without the likeability factor of our other players. Although I feel he can improve further and we shouldn’t seek to actively sell him, if there is a deal to be done we should take the money - more LW options out there in the market.

This is going over the top FFS. Are LW a cursed position?

Gordon is fine. He is just not in exceptional form like last season. You guys need your head checked if you think the starting left winger for England doesn’t worth 60m on the market.

In a situation where you want to sell he is worth what other clubs wants to pay. If he is worth 60m+ to us then we probably won't sell, because I'm not seeing what team would pay big money for him right now. There are a lot of wingers out there.

Think we’d be stupid to sell.

Too many other priorities.

I agree, you don't want to make too many changes in one window. It's easier to swap out your players in windows where you don't have to make a bunch of other moves silmutaneously. This is why Chelsea struggled after their first few windows under their new owner, although ofcourse they were quite extreme.

What was special about his game last season was how aggressive he was in every part of his play, he was popping up with key goal contributions in big matches and his self-belief made him often times unplayable. We're not seeing that this season. It's glaring.

We should sell him (and definitely not just because we lost yesterday and need a scapegoat). Can’t imagine how that kind of short-sighted, reactionary thinking could massively backfire.

If Isak is fit, I'd be playing Barnes and Murphy next game. And that's from someone who was a bit wary of Barnes before his latest spell.

Off the bench, if we're ahead, Gordon can come on and stretch them on the break. I always thought it would be the other way round with Barnes being the sub, but that's probably the form right now.

Gordon didn't play badly in the last game (in fact the whole team played pretty well) other than one mistake, but I think he needs his confidence back. He hasn't really been the same player as last season except in spells.

But I still wouldn't like to play against him if we sold him in the summer, not that I think that would be sensible or likely anyway.

Still scored some pretty big goals in fairness.

Do we give him the summer break anticipating he will pick up and if form remains as is till January do we move him on , or should a really good offer come during the summer window, do we take it, and not take the opportunity lime we should have in previous windows with players.

Think he needs a long, proper break. Has effectively played the 2022/23 season (moved to us Jan 23), U21 Euros that summer, very small break to come to our US Tour, carried us for parts of 23/24 amidst injury mania, went to the real Euros, played nearly all of 24/25 along with a few injuries he’s probably still fighting back from.

Throw in the alleged being offered to your boyhood club, having to sell his best mate to Forest and failing to sign his pal Guehi…time for a beach.

Didn't we offer him to Liverpool right before the deadline? Probably not confirmed, but.. if that was the case, that probably wasn't so encouraging knowing that we tried to sell him. My point is, lets not speculate that he was pushing for a move to Liverpool. Even if that ordeal had an impact, it could be the other way around. Him not being happy about being the one we felt we could sacrifice. Ofcourse it would still be unfprofessional to have a bad attitude for the whole season as a result.

Bottom line is we simply don't know the full story.
