Lush Vlad
Quality was lacking a bit. Especially when he gets near the goal. Looks a bit unsure on whether to shoot, cross, pass or take his man on. But he was in good company for that tonight! Work rate is immense, mind. Easy to see why Howe wanted him. He is rapid and gets all over the park. A bit lightweight and naive at times. But at the very least. His pace and ability to pressure are going to be useful. Good start to his NUFC career. I thought he’d maybe start next week, anyway. But with the injuries. That’s nailed on now, I reckon. Edited February 11, 2023 by Lush Vlad
Shak
Looked useful I thought. Adds something fresh to our team, pity we didn't get another player or two who could also do that as we have gone a bit stale.
KaKa
Wish he'd have come in on the left right away so he had more room to run at them. Was a shame he had to make do with playing off Isak instead while ASM continuously wasted opportunities to make an impact on the left side.
Infatuation Junkie
He ran and ran and ran. Tried to get the crowd going. Made a big impact when he came in. His movement off the ball is very intelligent. maxi could have slotted him in when he shot wide and Gordon’s marker was not goal side. Horses for courses I suppose. Newcastle Fan
He has the energy but is still very raw, hopefully will only get better with Howe's coaching.
Sempiternal
Not the best decision maker/final ball but he’s young so hopefully it’s coach able. Good athlete though and crazy acceleration

Gallowgate Toon
Willock has a really annoying knack of letting parts of the game pass him by, I thought Gordon looked really up for it without being very impactful. Some nice touches and attempts to get quicker passing moves going.

The College Dropout
My concern with Gordon is that he lacks quality. I still think that. The other parts of his game are impressive.

Nothing terrible just hangs on to the ball a lot, but there’s lots to like about him. He’s got uncoachable stuff though, so hopefully we unlock the rest

SteV
Will have to watch it back, but his little bit of skill and quick feet seemed pivotal for the goal. Just gave Maxi a half yard extra of space when receiving the pass, which he then used well, and we score from it.

I thought he shifted it between his right and left foot to put a bit of disguise on the pass. Will have to watch again to see.

Mountain
Gordon strikes me as the type that will develop. I'm pleased with what I have seen so far. Isak cost 20 million more and didn't do anything better today.
gazza ladra
Howe did mention that he did some “one to one work with him” early in the week.
Dr Jinx
I wasn’t overly impressed with him today, he got bullied off the ball a couple of times that I took note of. But overall solid enough in a team that misfired. He’ll do better.

Depends what you mean by coaching. I think 99% of it is 1. playing players in a way that utilises their strengths most and limits their weaknesses and 2. playing with more confidence. Miggy is playing with a lot more confidence and is playing a lot closer to goal. He can win the ball high due to his work rate and then he’s in on goal. Perhaps his movement has been coached better. But mostly it’s making the most of his skills and confidence. Joelinton has the same limitations he’s always had. But now he’s using his physicality and engine in a way we couldn’t imagine. And he has confidence. Schar is better defending higher up the pitch etc.
The College Dropout
Btw with Gordon, hes big but weak. I can see him developing strength and being quick and strong. Bundling players over. He’s got the size to be an aerial threat too. His off the ball play could improve too. But that cuteness, that technical ability. It’s never going to be a strength. Like James Milner improved tremendously as a player and changed positions. Achieved so much. But he never became a cute attacker like Nobby Solano
