It's sad that it's taken the Everton/Forest/Leicester farces to wake up the neutrals as to how ridiculous the PSR rules are. The criticisms made by Newcastle fans and many others have been valid and ignored by many until the shit has actually hit the fan. It's been laid bare just how unfit for purpose these restrictions have been and how they've been specifically geared towards preventing any challenge. It's now clear the rules need to be completely re-written in order to allow ambition AND support clubs from dodgy owners. It's not just about stamping our feet and wanting to spend billions immediately, it's got to protect clubs from shit owners using clubs as a cashpoint, there has to be that balance

Made us out to be the bogey man while the real bogey men hid behind their nefarious rules. Got the whole league believing their crap until it came knocking at their door.

Daily mail article I just read was light on details but instead of a points deduction you pay a tax on overspending.

Article suggests this may go to other clubs in the league as a payment for not over spending.

Or

Go towards clubs in the pyramid as a fund goes towards clubs that have found themselves in financial difficulty.

I guess like everything got to see the detail first.

I look forward to seeing who the first club is that manages to pay the luxury tax, get relegated, fall in to financial ruin and get their luxury tax back from the collective fund.

*Obviously it's a wait and see the details moment but this sounds promising from our point of view. There's definitely a need to protect clubs from dodgy owners and/or overspending but the current rules are falling somewhat short.

It's the hope that kills you but at least we've got discussion.

As much as American sports is a closed shop, at least all the teams there play by the same rules. The new UEFA rules where X% of your revenue can be spent on wages/transfers is just a salary cap by another name. However everyone is working with a different cap, having a league or UEFA limit would be a start. Of course teams that generate huge revenues (Real, Man U etc), might see it as limiting their spending so you'd have to balance against that. Though it might allow Man U to finally pay off all their debt!

Worth pointing out that changing the PL rules doesnt mean we can go wild, UEFA will still ban us for failing their rules

Would UEFA want to hamstring the interest in their leagues/competitions by blocking big spending teams from leagues that have wised up to the FFP/PSR nonsense?

Would they really be bringing in stricter rules if they wouldnt punish clubs for breaking them?

Told you all this is what will happen.

Is this a direct result of teams like Notts Forest, etc actually questioning the competition legalities of FFP/PSR and consulting legal teams? NDM knows.

We've been working like traitors in the background sow seeds and twisting ears to get teams and media to fight back. With media support the teams wronged feel like they have public support and ready to blow things up in public. The PL don't want that. The no agreement to the efl deal now has efl teams in board as they want more money but the PL teams can't afford it as thry can't spend to keep up. It's all worked out very nicely for us.

Shackles off in the summer, new ground incoming.

Or fine us (like they did to Man City)?

City got a fine due to the time limit expiring and they appealed didnt they?

What is the stated point of spending rules now then, if you can just pay even more money if you break them? [emoji38] obviously they tried to say that it was about stopping clubs from going bust and going wild with spending, so if these changes go through what is it meant to be?

"And in another shock development, a vote to reverse the February ruling on related-party transactions - deals within multi-club networks or with sponsors who have the same owners as a club - could also be on the cards.

In February, an amendment to these rules was approved by the narrowest of margins. With seven votes needed to block a proposal, there were 12 in favour, two abstentions and six against. But some feel that the change, and the knock-on impact it has on ownership of other clubs overseas, is harmful with one, thought to be Manchester City, considering legal action."

Now we are cooking!

Our owners have played a blinder here. Sucked it up and waited until the PL trod on its own land mine.

Now the damage to “small clubs” is seen by everyone as unfair and that EPLFFP’s  sole aim is really to keep the status quo for the PL six
