Lewis Miley: signs six-year contract extension (Official)

Recommended Posts

Thought he was ok, but didn’t really do anything with the ball. The difference between the desire of Bruno to influence the game compared to Miley was massive.
If Willock had played like that I’d of thought that was back to normal for him and if it was Ramsey I’d be wondering why we bought him.

Any compilations of his performance knocking about?

He's not going to make for great compilation reels, he is mostly a safe passer, and he doesn't really carry the ball much. He does the basics well and gets rid of the ball before anyone gets near him, which is good, but at the same time, that often just puts the onus on the player receiving the pass to do something with it.

It seems sacrilege to say it on here, but he looks very ‘meh’ to me.
Ridiculously risk averse.
Tidy, sure. Never looked like he wanted to make anything happen.

if we buy another midfielder in Jan I’d loan him out and see if he can establish himself as a ‘main man’ in a lower league side.

Our 3rd best midfielder IMO

That might be under instruction?

To me at 19 he shows good feet and makes smart use of the ball, his short passing tends to be on point and he's not easily ruffled. I'm a big fan and I'd be starting him most of the time when we're not up against a top side and want Joelinton to help turn the tables physically. I personally think it's ludicrous at this point to suggest loaning him out, and while he does sometimes play conservatively he has shown an ability to keep the ball in tight spaces and pop up on the end of chances.

He comes on when we're up 2-0 at home cruising to a result. Why wouldn't you want him to be risk averse? Players making risky passes and daft decisions is what helped Burnley get a late sniff. He's clearly good enough now to be our next man up in midfield, he is getting the minutes and proving it too.

He produced a beautiful first touch today in a highly precarious position when Schar I think it was zipped a ridiculously quick pass into him. He's got wonderful technique, something we generally lack outside of a couple of players.

Was ridiculous. He looked great when he came on.

I remember reading the exact same thing being said about Anderson on here to be fair.  He's miles better than 'meh', we have some utterly ridiculous 'fans' at times.

Are you suggesting Miley will also have to move away to become a better player than he is currently?

I wasn’t going that far. I just said a loan.

Even if that were true, I don't agree that it is. We could do with more players who are risk adverse and value the importance of possession tbh.

No, I'm suggesting that you've got completely unrealistic expectations of a 19 year old midfielder playing in the PL, who has consistently shown he has the ability and mentality to play at that level.

I agree with that in principle. Possession wise we’ve not been great when in a competitive game. Today though….

I have no idea why people love doubting Miley, a few weeks ago it was send him to the championship on loan, now it's "we don't get all the hype about him"

Kid was playing and not looking out of place at 17, he just scored and assisted a week ago in the premier league and i've seen far more from him for us then Anderson who is now an England starter, just believe in him and support him. he's one of our own ffs.
