Lewis Miley: signs six-year contract extension (Official)

Recommended Posts

He's been pressed into some service already for a 19 year old and as stand in RB against a very quick breaking Fulham team he coped so well, as he always has.

His ability to come up with vital goals, as well as his all round game, makes him a truly exceptional player.

He's such a fucking footballer, isn't he? It comes so naturally to him. Chuck him in and he floats, whenever he's playing. Just randomly turning up at RB and being great is no small achievement, and then to get the winner just proves how he truly belongs in the team.

100% this. I'm so happy for the lad. His nickname should be Smiley :indi:

His long-term future isn't full back, I think he's too good a midfielder for it, but we deployed him in some interesting ways yesterday which I think helped us on the ball.

He's also quite a clever mover into space, he definitely shows that Longstaff knack of finding that inside pocket in the box.

Yeah, similar to that underlapping run Longstaff used to make with a lot of success.  Although last night, it was more just finding space and parking himself.  As we played against a low block second half.  His ability on the ball is far better than Longstaff and he worked almost as a bit of a pivot to play from around the edge of their 18 yard box.

He seemed more involved from right back than he did in midfield.  Not saying it will always be like that or his future lies there.  But if it helps him get his confidence up and he starts demanding for the ball more and he improves in an attacking sense.  Then I don't mind it as a stop gap, for now.

That Kevin looks tricky and started really brightly.  Thought Miley was in for a tough night.  But he grew into it and Kevin shrunk.  He disappeared and I only then noticed him when he was subbed off.

I hope this has marked the end of his promising youngster phase and he can now be regarded as a first team player on merit. I know he was playing at full back yesterday, but he still showed fabulous composure and and a willingness to get forward when it mattered. He's a high quality midfielder, let's treat him with that status.

Don't think he looked particularly comfortable at right back but he did well and he's starting to look really composed on the ball and like a proper player, the fact he has goals on him is a massive bonus too, he's a positive amongst the gloom.

Ageed - hardly the lad’s fault, but he gave the ball away cheaply near the corner quite a few times.  Forgiveneas for errors - correctly - is more forthcoming when you’re one step up from amateur.

Good pace when he gets going. With his build his acceleration is never going to be electric but he’s quick when he gets going. Was delighted to see him tackle Traore. Be awesome if he can be a genuine alternative at RB when needed.
Hope he continues to be a goal threat in the air. We need that.

The lad looks good, but I’d still rather his progress wasn’t accelerated and he’s gradually introduced.  If he’s good enough it’ll happen - I’m concerned if he’s seen as any type of saviour.

No chance he's getting accelerated with Howe in charge. I think he just needs to be treated like any other midfielder and we should have no hesitation in using him at the same level as any other midfielder. We've had occasions earlier in the season when we've flogged Bruno, Tonali and Joelinton when they were not 100%. I'm glad we seem to be moving away from that now.

It might be a blessing in disguise, help him focus on the defensive side of his game which his weakest part at the moment. Silver linings and all that!

Said this before, but imagine him as a David Silva type right mid

Well I can imagine it, but my sense of excitement is dampened somewhat by having seen them both play.

Joking aside, could grow into more of a Yaya Toure style surely?
